Steven Levy of Newsweek blogs

Oh, Steven Levy, why are you trying to mess up a good deal? We all know that Apple doesn’t consider bloggers worthy of talking to. So, now that you’re blogging, aren’t you afraid that Steve won’t call you up anymore and give you exclusive looks at iPods and other things?

But, seriously, welcome to the bloggy world. I am real sorry I missed you when you dropped by the BlogHaus. I hear that both you and John Markoff of the New York Times dropped by and stayed for a couple of hours (I was working on the show floor when they dropped by).

So, does that mean that John is going to start blogging too?

  1. Whether or not Apple considers bloggers worthy of talking to, that doesn’t mean that Apple doesn’t find it worthy to talk to journalists who blog.

There’s a huge difference. As you show everyday.

  3. Why all the trashing of Apple again Robert? You doing some background work for MS again?

Off the top of my head I read HANDS ON reports from Engadget and Gizmodo on the new iPhone where they were given 15 minutes with it to make calls, listen to the music, play with the internet, ask relative questions, etc.. I’d call that considering bloggers as actual news people.

Or would an interview with Bill Gates and asking him what he has on his Zune for music rather then what DRM he has on the Zune mean that you’re considered more of a journalist?

  5. You are a freaking moron. Both Engadget and Gizmodo got one-on-one time with Apple VPs this week. In fact, Gizmodo had the first hands-on of the iPhone on the net.

The only person not worth talking to is you. You regularly make moronic statements to get hits and completly ignore the realities of technology market.

Wow, your pet project the tablet really set the world on fire. Oh, by the way, where’s the Apple Tablet you claimed was coming this year? Didn’t you say everything you predicted was released by Apple?

Aren’t you the same guy who compared CES and Macworld, after you had attended Macworld during the afternoon of the last day of the conference?

And oh by the way, just because you own Macs doesn’t mean that you can expect to be able to make idiotic statements about Apple and not get called on it.

    Idiot.

I’m relatively new to this scene and one of the few bloggers from South Africa, but I must say I’m continually surprised at the amount of abuse that anyone who even jokes about an Apple product gets!. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see the same reaction from Microsoft users when they get slagged (and that seems to be a lot), I don’t think that it’s because they don’t care either, maybe they are a more civilised bunch of chaps. Can’t we all just get along?.

After watching the presentation Jobs gave to MacWorld I was eagerly awaiting him to touch on Video Podcasting and how it will explode with AppleTV. No such luck. But, we all know it’s coming…

Scoble meant ‘at least Z list’ and not ‘just Z list'( and you know what he meant). Sometimes your word-by-word analysis on scoble’s post and out of context quotes are silly.

BTW, Why are apple fanboys so intolerant of alternate views? I dont even see them engaging in a proper conversation. It’s just name calling and proving that Microsoft also did it. Cmon guys, don’t be so defensive. If apple is the best damn thing in the market you shouldn’t have to compare it to the ‘lowly MSFT’ everytime.

I think high scool bullies are better than the fanboys.

You are so transparent it’s not even funny. You want failure for Apple because it validates this insane notion you have that a company has to blog in order to market succesfully.

The fact that your theory has been flat-out proven wrong time after time doesn’t matter. All the negative crap you post about Apple is really all about your ego.

So I’m trying to figure out what’s behind the huge concentration of Apple hate that’s been building up Ghostbusters II-style since Steve Jobs’s keynote this Tuesday. It’s not simply criticism, or potshots like the ones you’ve been taking: it’s hate, oozing out of almost every tech journalist and blogger without an obvious Apple bias; gushing out of diggers and commenters. It seems like everyone wants to slime Apple.

At first I was thinking it was because Apple upstaged CES. It seems like mostly industry people who are pissed. Mainstream non-tech journalists are generally down with the jPhone.

Then I was thinking it was the way it was introduced as the Next Big Thing, and how some people just have a natural resistance to ideas like that.

Do you have any insight into this?

Apple has been the beneficiary of more blog hype than 2700 companies at CES put together!

And, so a few of us pointing out some negatives is the equivilent of “hate?” Get real dude and get some perspective. Go back and read TechMeme every day this week and look at the quantity of words written about Apple. Most of them are in total awe of Apple’s new products. Not to mention that Apple’s stock price went way up this week.

Apple employees had, for money, provided information to the bloggers, and should be exposed.”

The other common thing about fanboys is the obvious anti microsoft feeling. So the reason for fanboy-ism is not ‘passion’ or ‘search for excellence’. it’s just the anti msft hate. That’s why every discussion about apple has the fanboys trying to prove how aaple is superior to microsoft.

For every Lazy, there are at least two Francines performing verbal fellatio on Robert. I find people like that much more irritating because they NEVER have anything substantive to say. The critics are at least well-informed.

As for Roberts’ current hissy fit, it is about his ego. Not only will Steve Jobs not give him the time of day, Robert attended what turned out to be the wrong convention and even got dissed by Bill Gates while there. He had a bad week and is taking it out on Apple.

  69. @31 – Diego, I’m sorry. You are not even eligible to get an enrollment application to ‘The Club’. You don’t call names, you dont get in to a fit of rage every time Steve Jobs or Apple is mentioned in a not so positive light.;-)

@32 – It’s not about criticizm. It’s about personal attacks and namecalling.

@33 – I strongly think you understand what Robert means. And mostly i agree with what you have to say. But certainly not this time. The ‘Z list’ issue came in when he answered to someone who claimed he was showing “A list mentality”.

    @40 – “There were 400 vendors”
Really. You’ve got me there. I didnt find a mention of any of the 399 other vendors in Techmeme. Those vendors should really think if it’s worth going to a expo where they don’t even get covered. (But what do i know, they probably were listed like how they list actor names at the end of movies-

    Waiter #1 – John Doe
    Waiter #2 – Jane Doe
    CO-Passenger #1 – …)

The Mac press is all over the macworld announcements, the floor was packed around all the booths, vendors demoing, selling, it was a blast.

Hey i didnt go to MacWorld/CES. Techmeme is my exclusive window to the tech world. Lame? may be, i don’t have an option though.

Besides, my point still stands. I didnt find any mention of the vendors from Mac world in techmeme. Did you? ( i didn’t say there weren’t any vendors in mac world)

Why is techmeme your exclusive window? Why do you have no option?

    Yes, you are lame.

In fact, Scoble should have been all over two of the vendors at MacWorld: he finally got his mythical MacTablet.

  77. I don’t even want to waste my time typing them all, but a few would be: google news, nyt, engadget, gizmodo, cnet news, arstechnica, neowin, activewin, macdailynews, appleinsider, tuaw, macrumors, computerwould, pcmag, wired, valleywag, techmeme, gigaom, crunchgear, slashdot, the register, win info, microsoft watch…

    but that’s a short list.

Conversely, why is an exclusive window a good thing? Do you think anyone is impressed with that narrow-minded and absurd view? I can’t imagine anyone is.

  79. huh…Whats with the schooling?

You aware that techmeme doesn’t have any ‘own artciles’ and just links to the hot topics from other sites? All – as in *ALL* – the sites you have mentioned get linked by techmeme. When i say techmeme i thought it was obvious that i was refering to the websites whose artciles appear on techmeme.

I was really hoping a more meaningful answer from you :-(.

Umm, you’re an idiot. How’s that for meaningful. Thousand upon thousands of articles never appear on TechMeme on a daily basis. All, as in all, tech articles are not on techmeme.

I’m really waiting on your meaningful answer as to why it’s so brilliant to sit and look at one site and one site only. Clearly you missed tons of MacWorld coverage and somehow this is my fault because your web browser and internet connection only allow you to visit one site.

How did you deduce this? if you are going to make up something why not do something more fancy and interesting.

“All, as in all, tech articles are not on techmeme.”
Again, not something i said. I said all the sites you mention get linked.

I would love to go all across the web and read ALL articles. But i have this thing called job that i have to take care sometimes. So the easier i can get to information the better it is for me.

All things aside, my original point was about no meaningful coverage on the vendors on techmeme which is still valid. So counter that.

And, again, why do you have no other option but to use it as your exclusive source, but you can type away on Scobleizer being a pissant? Answer that.

What is even funnier is that for all the vendors at CES, journalists still found MacWorld more worthy of coverage.
    CNN has two articles:

“The Best of CES” 944 words 156 of were about the iPhone.

“Apple answers the call with iPhone, TV box” 954 words 0 about anything at CES.

So, by your count a one vendor show out did a 2700 vendor show when it came to interest shown by the press. I guess they just don’t get excited by car stereos.

That is an inane comment, Robert. Apple Inc. draws about a fifth as many vendors as CES despite being just one company. The iPod accessory market alone has thousands of products. Furthermore, if you had any news sense whatsoever you would have flown to Macworld for the keynote, perhaps that whole day. How is Podtech going to obtain respect if it misses the biggest tech story of the week, perhaps month?

Blogger, you are embarrassing yourself. The seriously tech savvy do not rely on one source for information. You’ve unwittingly established that you are a poseur. At the very least, you should be reading tech coverage in the NYT, WaPo and at C/NET.
