Mark Lucovsky just sent me this little thing they are working on at Google: iPhone search. Looks great on Patrick’s iPhone.

Unless I’m missing something, it needs a simple way to blank the search field and start over, since the iphone interface forces you to hit delete until the current text is gone. Maybe pressing search again without changing the text could blank it? or just a small “clear” button. Reloading the page does clear the search field but that’s a bit slow on EDGE.
But yeah, otherwise very nice.

I’m impressed at how quick it returns results. I think if I’m going to use Google, this might be the page to search from – ad free.

@1 – At the bottom of the list of results there is a “clear results” link. Not the ideal place, but given how fat fingers are, putting too many controls at the top of the page gets pretty cramped.

While personally I don’t have a problem with Google on my iPhone, anything that “might” make it better or easier will be appreciated.

Another cool application for iphone…PressDisplay.com

Better yet, use this code as a sample and build your own iPhone pages with embedded search. There is nothing really magic about this sample other than its CSS is designed with the iPhone and fat-fingers in mind. The code that powers the search is stock Google AJAX Search API which is designed to run on any page, and on any host that can cope with a little simple JavaScript.
