Bart Decrem was showing me Tribal Shout today — that’s Bart’s hands and iPhone with Tribal Shout on it above. He was raving about the ability to get a podcast via cell phone service. He says that sometimes he’s bored when he’s running or out about town and wants to listen to something new. Says Tribal Shout lets him get it.
Don’t know who Bart is? He was the founder of Flock and played a key role on the Mozilla Foundation, among other things.
Anyway, onto the second topic of this post. I liked the iPhone case he had on his iPhone (seen above). Made by inCase it was rubber with a very gripable surface on back. Very cool looking. What kind of cases are you finding? Which one do you have?
I showed him TwitterGram and we recorded a little short message from my cell phone which instantly got uploaded to Twitter.
UPDATE: Valerie Cunningham just walked in with her iPhone and showed me her Speck ToughSkin case. That rocks, it has a clip, has better protection around the front for the screen, and can stand up for speaker-phone mode.

Great find, hopefully this will bring Podcasting to regular phones. If you’d like to experience it on your N95, you can check out Nokia’s Podcasting application: http://www.nokia.com/podcasting. I’ve been using it on my N95 (and other S60 devices) for a while and it’s actually replaced my iPod for podcasts, simply because I’m able to download new podcasts whenever I want, rather than having to sync with my computer. It can use cellular data OR WiFi, which makes it even more convenient. There’s even several video podcasts that will work on it.

I got the DLO Jamjacket for the iPhone. It has nice grips on the side and on the back is has a form for wraping and storing your headphones. I’m very pleased with it. Has holes for the camera and other ports. Feels very nice in the hand.

I also have that rubber case. I like it because it doesn’t add girth to my iPhone.
I bought the clip too, for days when I go to the bar in my softball uniform and don’t have pockets.

Hi, any chance of a few iPhone less blog entries ? I have never seen some much written about a device with such major weaknesses. Maybe I am the only one who does not get it but the v1 iPhone does not seem that exciting. Give it a keyboard, replacable battery, ability to play all music formats, mms and proper bluetooth capabilities and it might be vaguely interesting but at the moment it is considerably weaker than most of it’s competitors.

Ugh. Why would you put a case (commonly called an iPod Condom for iPods, so iPhone Condom?) on your iPhone?
It makes them bulkier, heavier, and basically suckier.
The things are amazingly resilient. We’ve had some catastrophes here at the office (one of them took a *high* velocity bang on the cement. A scratch was the only effect).
They’re gorgeous already. Don’t uglify and bulkify them! š

Agree with Don – don’t uglify your phone – by the time it has so much “character” from scratches etc that it has tipped over into scruffy, you’ll be upgrading anyway. And Valerie, no, wearing your phone on your belt is akin to a facial tattoo and should never even be contemplated. It is like those men who wear huge bunches of keys on their belts – like, wow, you’ve kept every key you ever had? Why’d you do that?

I currently own 4 phones: a Panasonic VS3, a Samsung A900, a Nokia N93, and a Sony Ericsson K800i. I also use two PDAs: a Nokia N800 pocket internet tablet (running a variant of Debian Linux) and a Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox C560 (running Windows Mobile 5.0). They are all useful to me for different reasons.
I like my (unlocked) Nokia N93 very much. Like its slimmer/younger brother, the N95, it provides a lot of useful functionality, but the battery does not last that long (especially in 3G mode) and from the sound of it far less than the iPhone’s battery. Of course, the Nokia’s battery is replaceable, which is undoubtedly a good thing, but even though I bought a second battery a week ago, I have yet to remember to carry it around with me.
The N95 is an even better phone than my N93. That’s why it says a lot about the iPhone when I hear that an N95 owner whom I very much respect say that he prefers using the iPhone to the N95.
As a gadget lover, I can appreciate the beauty and elegance of the iPhone’s hardware/software and am looking forwarding to using it as my main phone (and mp3 player) as soon as it is released in Europe.
So I am happy to learn as much as I can about the iPhone here and in other blogs.
Have you had any time to play with Google Maps on the iPhone?

It holds the phone horizontal, not vertical, which isn’t as cumbersome when you move and have it clipped to your belt, and protects it all around until you take it out, when it’s naked, the way Steve intended it.

The iPhoen is ery tempting … very. But its continued failure to be useful as a smartphone is a real problem for me (even if I didn;t hate TA&T).
* No copy / paste? Really? Really? You MUST be kidding me.
* No voice / data at the same time? That makes any hope of using the web to overcome its failings a no-go. I can’t be on ta-da list while i am on a call. Which sucks because Apple couldn’t manage to put a to-do list on the phone.
* The email integration / synch sucks.
* I cant use it as a modem for my laptop (not that EDGE wouldn’t suck). Hell, in a pinch I can use Remode Desktop from my Treo to check a server.
It’s slick. It’s pretty. It’s cute. I covet it. I lust for the screen. However I would ahve to carry the iPhone AND my Treo 700w to actually DO anything.
Fortunately a HTC touch and Deepfish will give me what I want most, a big screen and the full internet.

I have the same Speck case. It makes the iPhone look a little Batman-ey, I admit, but I owe the thing my life after saving my iPhone from a parking lot tumble the day after I bought it. And I only discovered the ‘kickstand’ feature of the belt clip today by accident. Maybe later I’ll get classy and get a leather case, but this tough guy works for me for now.

The iPhone won’t reach the status of the iPod, because normal folk won’t pay 500-600 dollars for a phone. That’s OK, Apple can make plenty of money catering to the rich.
