Dan Florio is a Flash developer who works up at Microsoft on the Xbox team. Forget where he works for a second because that really has no impact on what we’re talking about here.
He’s created a ton of custom Flash video interfaces which lead him to develop a tool for other Flash designers/developers to make their job easier called video.Maru.
He just released a major update of the tool and based on some of his testimonials I expect it’ll be a big hit for Flash developers.
He wrote me that the only thing he gets out of this is the notoriety for creating this and the “satisfaction of giving back to the Flash community which has helped me so much in my career.”
Let me get this straight, so I can build my own YouTube like flash video player? I can customize the video player to fit my website? That sounds awesome, I could use this for my animated Christmas Light display website (www.ksoChristmasLights.com).

@Scoble,
function sayThankYou():Void {
trace(“Thank you”);
sayThankYou();
}
// that recursion will just
// lock up the Flash player
// this works better
this.onEnterFrame = function():Void {
trace(“Thank you”);
}
@Aaron S. All true. You can do everything you asked with video.Maru and a whole lot more.

Robert,
I went to polygeek.com and it seems like all the pages are blank on them where the “content” is supposed to be. Any idea why?

@Orville, I can’t guess why your having problems. I’d try refreshing or popping back in an hour or so. I’m looking at it right now in FF and IE and every thing seems to be working fine.

@polyGeek, go to my blog now (orvillechomer.blogspot.com), I’ve posted a composite screen shot of how the page looks to me. I’m running IE6 SP2. I am behind a proxy server at work. There’s nothing out of the ordinary that it might block is there?

Seems very inspired by the Silverlight video skins that are available in Microsoft Expression Media Encoder. Just name your XAML elements the right way and presto! Everything ‘just works’.

@Blitzagency, yeah, video.Maru came first. Version one was released last fall. So, the Silverlight video skins are inspired by video.Maru. š
