Zbiz.TV interviews businesspeople

Zbiz.TV just started up and is doing something similar to what I’m doing on ScobleShow: trying to get around to early stage companies and learn about what they are doing. I’ve watched the first two and they are rougher than the videos I’ve done (hey, not everyone has a $4,000 camcorder) but it’s good stuff to put in the background and listen to.

  1. I think it’s more than a $4K camera they are lacking. They need to take a few classes on videography and audio recording.

    They could have:
    1. picked a better location to shoot the interview (why does someone have to be sitting at their computer if there are no demos?)
    2. used a better camera angle (is this the local news station?)
    3. tried to do “something” better with the lighting. (overhead florecents are about the worst light source you can use.)
    3. used a clip-on mic for both persons speaking during the interview. (that room echo/white noise drives me nuts)

I know… they are just starting out. So until they get some revenue going it may be difficult to be able to afford to buy light kits, mics, and take some closses. I’ll visit the site every one in a while to see what they are doing. But with the existing quality, I can’t see adding it to my regularly visited sites.

Robert, Watching some of your early video interviews I can see a big improvement. Maybe IT IS just the $4K camera. 😉

  5. Yeah, I agree… the guys at Zbiz need to hit up some classes (or find a person interested in joining them that has those skills) to polish up their videography.

Hate to say it, but your interviews had so much more to them as well. Then again, you were meeting with people that have been around for a little while… when you interview a young person that is new to the field they just aren’t going to appear as polished. There is a reason that Jonathan is CEO of Sun and Shai is on the Board at SAP. Perhaps that is a place that Peter will be at some day… but in the mean time the other guys have been there and done that for quite some time.

The quality is too low… which means it just doesn’t quite sync and the rest of the problems mentioned make it a bit rough. It would almost perform better as a PodCast with a higher sound quality.

That said, I do appreciate somebody going out and listening to the young entrepreneurs. Why? Because I am at a place in my life where I can enjoy the global strategic thinkers that have been on the Scobleshow, but in reality I’ll more than likely learn from the nuts and bolts approach of the little guys that are pushing to make their smaller organizations work.

That said, gaining insights from the big dogs is great and I certainly plan on tuning in to Scobleshow if it keeps on getting the goods.

By the way Scoble, tell us when you want to expand out beyond doing the interviews yourself. I am sure there are alot of people out there that would expand your ability to get interesting news/interviews around the world. The only downside is we might not havve $4,000 cameras :-p

  7. I’m the guy behind ZBIZ.TV and just wanted to say to all the commenters that I totally concur with your highly supportive criticisms and will be doing my best to get the help I need to create first class videos.

I don’t think it’s the $4000 camera. It’s what happens during and after the editing process (compression and streaming) that make what started as a fairly clear video with good sound into a distorted and grainy end user experience. I’ve been teaching myself and would only grade myself with a D thus far.

I am actively trying to recruit someone who can work with me on the production and post production side of things so that I can turn out a first class product.

Your comments provide strong motivation for me to get that done as quickly as possible.

To Robert, thank you for the plug. I love ScobleShow. It provides me with a clear vision of the many ways I could improve the interviews I put out.

Again, thanks to you all… I heard you very clearly and will act upon it immediately.

  9. Cool Blogg tipping David. 1.
Mr. Scoble, how about a “V-DEO” on grey flight?
If someone gets flamed in a blogg is it termed flogged?

Mr. S.,I cut and pasted your list of key influencers names into a word doc within my history files for future spin off uses. Hope you do not mind. Thanks in advance.
