On October 1 Stanford University is rolling out the red carpet for a Photowalk which ends up at a talk by National Geographic photographers.
This week Rick Smolan (that’s him in the photo) is doing another one of his famous photo projects that you can participate in. He’s the photographer who did the “Day in the Life” series of books, among others. This time he’s working on a new book that focuses on what home means to Americans.
Anyway, really hope you can come along on the Photowalking at Stanford. You’re invited. Just sign up on Upcoming.org. You don’t need an expensive camera, either. It’s open to everyone.

This is a lot of fun. I was part of America 24/7 and had couple of my photos publish on the California 24/7 book. The best part is, that you can approach random people and tell them what you are doing and you can feel like NG photographer for that day.

From the event description: “The National Geographic Society’s All Roads Film Project recognizes and supports indigenous and underrepresented storytellers from around the world who are documenting their changing cultures and communities through photography and film. We present talented artists from around the world who have been selected by the National Geographic Society to present their work and reflect on ways their images and stories make connections that help create a more just and beautiful world.”
The panel includes photographers from Nigeria, Lapland, Kashmir, and Inner Mongolia among others. Oded Balilty from Israel will also be on the panel; he recently won the Pulitzer Prize for this photo: http://www.pulitzer.org/year/2007/breaking-news-photography/works/

Robert, Thomas Hawk is a great guy. Never met him in person but we exchanged emails in the past, when I saw a photo of me taking photos at the san fran icer air ski jumping event. He was kind enough to send me the original file. GREAT GUY to have over! The 5D is great and the Moder and child photo on your flickr is awesome. So I guess, you don’t really need anyone over. Hope you submit some photos to the project.
