Market likes Google results

Google just released its latest results and in aftermarket trading Google is up again. This is the second quarter where Yahoo presented disappointing results and Google came in right behind and brought in results that the market liked (income was slightly below expectations, profits slightly higher — profits up 69% this quarter). For me, this is great news. I’m hearing more and more stories of businesses increasing their online advertising spending. How about you? What should we read into the results this week of the Internet giants?

  1. Google Rules!

I’m sure they will stumble eventually, but so far I’m finding myself able to do more and more online in rich (but not TOO rich) content that never touches my hard drive.

I don’t have to do file transfers from one PC to another, or even worry about setting up SMB shares. I can travel with zero PC related preparations (including even having to bring a PC at all). I just got the ability to do graphs online, and in a few months won’t need Powerpoint at all.

The only questionable move Google has made was the Youtube buy, mainly because their existing product was just as good… so they paid for market share, which sort of resembles what MS has been doing for a long time. Yes, they did that with Blogger too, but they’ve transformed blogger into something that scales, made it much better, and well, it’s a good domain name to have anyway.

I’ll be a sucker for a Google phone or a Google PC if they do one (or the other). They’ve established great credibility for me, and doubtless many others.

Now the question is can Microsoft re-establish credibility for themselves, or will they just keep sicking their lawyers on bloggers covering Google:

I guess their are people withing the company who just don’t realize how pathetic this all seems.
