My Twitter video. An inside look. Meet the team. 37 minutes of Twitter brilliance. Watch it.

You get to see the inside of Twitter’s headquarters. Filmed last Friday, the day after they got funding. Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, talks about funding for the first few minutes — we start the interview as Biz is on the move just as they were starting to celebrate Niall Kennedy’s birthday. I’ll watch the video right now and add a list of what’s discussed.

2:50: What is Twitter? (Biz)
3:20: TwitterVision (Biz)
4:10 Niall Kennedy‘s birthday and meet the Twitter team. (Biz and team)
5:27 Discussion of South Park’s role in Web world (a neighborhood in San Francisco that has a high concentration of startups). (Biz and Team)
6:08: You meet engineer Britt who talks about the infrastructure underneath Twitter and the problems scaling it and dealing with rapid growth. (Britt Selvitelle, developer).
8:02: who came up with Twitter? (Britt)
9:38: It was built in Ruby on Rails and Erlang. (Britt)
11:55: Scaling and fixing bugs. (Britt)
14:00 Were you surprised by the growth of Twitter? (Britt)
17:00 Who built the mobile Twitter? (Britt)
18:38 Meet Alex Payne. He maintains the API and works with third-party developers.
19:10 Demo of Twitter (Alex)
21:50 Using Twitter on cell phones and IM (Alex)
22:30 TwitterVision (Alex).
26:30 Discussion of TwitterFeed and LOLCats.
27:20 Answer to criticism of Twitter.
28:50 Twitter’s role during disasters.

  3. favorite quotable question “so for normal people, what is Twitter?”

Just guessing but i think peeps in SF use the word love a lot more freely than they do in NY.

  5. Is it just me, or is the scope of this blog getting smaller and smaller? Is it just about stuff like Twitter and Facebook now?

  7. Billy: just hang out. I interviewed IBM’s top intellectual property lawyer yesterday plus a Stanford University Computer Science professor.

But, this is what’s hot in the tech industry. I just came back from Always On and they just had a standing-room-only discussion of social networking.

  9. And a TON more coming that’s not Facebook or Twitter. Oh, and I try not to post too much of that stuff on my link blog. So, if you are sick of hearing about social stuff you should check into that.

  11. Good stuff Robert! Thanks for that! Nice to hear from the team what’s been going on.

I wonder if they realise that I met my fiancee on Twitter?

We both have a button which says “I fell in love in 140 characters or less…” ;p

    10,000 miles away too! 🙂

  13. Dude! Shutup w/ the Twitter and Facebook posts!!!

You’re so much better than this, and so much more creative that this.

I dare you to stop posting about Twitter or Facebook… just for 7 days.

Seriously, I’ve been following you since just before you went to MSFT. I’ve left comments here and there. And, I’ve met you in person several times… I have much respect, and I love what you’ve done for the industry (Web 2.Scoble).

However, I’m sick of it! There is so much more to life than the hottest thing in the bay area.

    I’ll keep reading. But, Damn… now I’m down $.02.

  15. Toby: you need to get a feed reader. I just “J” over anything that’s lame or repetitive or not interesting to me.

Maybe you should read my link blog.

But, more stuff coming to you. I’ve also done 360 videos — only one of which is on Twitter and none on Facebook — in the past 11 months.

  17. This was your best video yet Robert IMHO. You managed to squeeze some good information out of the Twitter guys and also gave us a good look inside the company. Thanks.

  19. Robert~ I use a reader, and my favorite is Google Reader too, especially w/ the mobile version for my phone…

I was mostly commenting because of my recent break from blogging, and then the return, and getting lots of posts from you (cool) but too many on Twitter and Facebook (IMO). I don’t need to break the J on my keyboard! 😉

  21. Nice video, but don’t forget a sound check for yourself. The entire interview was one sided because I couldn’t understand a single word you were saying. Just a note for next time.
