Whew, lots of speaking this morning. Talked with the Seattle Chamber of Commerce already, am meeting with information officers from all sorts of government branches in 20 minutes, talking at Amazon around noon.
What's interesting about speaking is what you learn. I love talking with business people who are trying to learn how to make their businesses work better. People are still trying to figure out how search engines work and how that's disrupting their businesses. There were lots of scribbling when Shel and I talked about search engine optimization.
On another topic. I've been getting some very nice emails and phone calls from you all. I got one from Dave Sifry, founder of Technorati, today that's going to keep a smile on my face for days. I won't tell you what he said, but this journey has been quite remarkable.
It's the relationships that are magical. It's the small things in life. It's getting more people onto the Web and into using technology to connect with other people who care about what they care about. It's about listening. I haven't done enough of that. I'm gonna listen to Dave's voice mail again. And again. And again. Anytime I need a smile.
We need more smiles. Hope you have one today.

I’m guessing the Dave Sifry news is either about funding or a buyout. If I’m right then I’m very pleased for Dave who, as I’ve commented on my own blog, is probably the most responsive CEO I’ve ever come across on the internet.

How people can tolerate your speeches is beyond me, they’d make my teeth hurt, lure of the celebrity, I imagine.

It can be irritating when people send nasty comments but is it worth being frazzled. I personally started screening comments and trackbacks (even though I get only a few of them) after some improper ones came my way.
I think some commenters get nasty on purpose, thinking they will get some attention.
Our little headaches are not much compared to people who have to walk 6 miles a day to get their water. We are sometimes so wrapped up in our little world that we loose our perspective.
I do like your passionate side though.

I knew a guy who played football at Notre Dame under Lou Holtz. Lou was always yelling at him to run faster, push harder, give more of an effort. One day he was frustrated and talked to an alum (NFL player) who gave him a good piece of advice:
“Be worried when he isn’t yelling at you, because then he doesn’t care.”
So don’t worry about those who yell at you. It takes just as much energy on their part to post flames as it does to post praise, but at least they care what you have to say.

Christopher Coulter is nothing more than a brand destroying thug, I do not believe in banning someone from “the conversation” and admire Robert for letting this blow hard speak, but man oh man! LOL!

We have had whole, long moments when Chris has actually been, er, nice.

1 – just a typical a-hole

One little quasi-snarky comment, results in piles and piles of bloggerese psychobabble over-analysis? And people tell me *I* need a life? ((Rolls eyes)) Nice poem twinge though. 😉
It’s a “naked conversation”, conversations, as you know, do deal with differing outlooks and/or opinions. But score one for Robert for actually not censoring, lots of blogs aren’t as tolerant.
Socialist? Hardly, think more Alex P. Keatonish, Sean Hannityistic Reagan 80s kiddo (but the strong SEC with real teeth flavor), kinda PJ O’Rourke does Nick Carr, if you will. But I hate self-analysis of the blogger navel gazing sort. And my ‘folks’ are Dwight D. Eisenhower plenitude-era styled, no Boomer offspring LSD in the DNA here.
But only doing this in the render downtime, and got too many new projects to handle, so the armchair psychs can have a breather. Hate me for my Scoble comments, but show up at my movies. And anyone that knows Christopher Guest, drop him my name. 😉

I’ve been trying to get Christopher to blog forever (at least three years, right Chris?)
I agree he’s been good for my blogging. If anything, his appearance used to be a good measure for if I said anything interesting. I’m still looking through this post amazed that I torqued his wrench, but that’s what makes the world go around.
I figure that from now on if I say the sky is overcast someone will argue with me about it.
But, anyway, what did David Sifry tell me? Nothing about business. It was a personal message between two people. It made me smile. I’m still having a good day because of the message, even after three talks with three very different audiences.

Sorry for hijacking the post, but I find it interesting to follow the whole Strumpette chaos, since you linked to it in your comments about the “Steve Rubel dead pool”. Well, I figured I’d check it out today and to see if the Strumpette vs. Edelman verbal battle is over. Well, it appears that Strumpette, aka Amanda Chapel, aka “Ms. Perky Boobs”, aka PR ho, either forgot to pay her web hosting bill or they’re shutting down her account. As of 2:40pm PST today here account is in “Account Suspended” status. While she’s the the #1 hit on Google for the search word “Strumpette” that doesn’t work either. Hmmmm, either the servers are getting hammered, Edelman has called in some favors or Amanda can’t pay her bills. I wonder if she isn’t attempting another Jennifer Cutler play and perhaps she could have a sugar daddy to pay her web hosting bill. Either way, I find the whole fiasco funny and sad at the same time. Makes me wonder if this isn’t just an Edelman vs. competitor blog, which would be more noise rather than sites that truly bring value.
Alas, I guess if you pose and talk about your purported sexcapades then you might get yourself a book deal and perhaps movie deal. Wonder if a 40-year old, bald dude could parlay that somehow? Nah, my boobs aren’t perky. Back to real work….

Nope Chris, from your last post you have proven that you are indeed a power hungry individual. If I had the keys to the fort I would absolutely refuse giving them to you. (This also includes Hollywood) but sure, make that movie and let the people decide. My sister’s boyfriend (also full of himself) once insulted me in my own home while making reference to all these great people, I still have the scar from his tooth in my knuckle. You remind me of him.

But I know the pipeline so it’s no idle boast, but then it can be a shark-filled town, things greenlight or optioned can still languish for years, and, plus, I am outside of the promised-land now (LA). So yeah, good point (point taken), until it’s gold, shalt not “brag”. Lesson Microsoft could learn as well. 😉
