This week Box.net announced a ton of new stuff. You can read the press on Techmeme, or here:

To get more detail, though, I sat down with Box’s CEO, Aaron Levie, and Senior Web Developer Florian Jourda, who gave me details behind the new features (like how they used open source technology from Facebook) and showed me around the new features.

  1. Didn’t take me long to fall in love with box.net. At first not all the features were apparent to me. But once I “got it” I went from a free to a paid account.

I’m not a guy who is against paying for something but I find Box.net expensive considering how much storage is these days, I mean come on, Amazon is 11 cents per GB, and less if you use their reduced redundancy storage. Currently I have a free Box account, a free DropBox account (which with affiliate links to get more storage is at 10 GB), a free Google Docs Account, and a free SkyDrive Account. This gives me access to 47 GB of free storage !

    I’m using a service called SMEStorage “to knit” these together and enable me to manage all files form one file system, and access from my iPad and Windows. I’m doing an auto backup from Google Docs to SkyDrive and from DropBox to SkyDrive The cost of this ? $4.99 one off payment for iPad App. Nothing for the free windows tools, and one of charge of $39.99 to get access to cloud to cloud backup and windows virtual drive, sync etc. I can’t see me ever needing more than 47GB and I do most of my work on the iPad these days….
