Tonight, just now, a new version of Flipboard is shipping on the iPad (the update should be available any minute). It adds all sorts of cool stuff including Google Reader and Flickr support. Here’s the reports about the new features on Techcrunch, on the Next Web, on AllThingsD, and on RWW.
But it’s not the version I’m waiting for.
What version is that? The one that will filter through all of these social networks and use the technology they purchased when they acquired the Ellerdale Project to really find the good stuff out of the thousands of items that are aimed at me every day.
Yeah, I can hear Louis Gray telling me to just use My6Sense. That’s fine, but they don’t have a really great paginator like Flipboard does.
So, what does this new version of Flipboard do? Sets the stage for a really interesting new release early next year that will have the new filtering technology built in.
For a hint as to what I’m hoping for, watch my videos on DataSift or Research.ly:

Now, imagine that some of those features are applied to Flipboard’s cool paginator. That’s when this will really be useful for a lot more than it is today.
So, what’s good about tonight’s new version? Deep integration with Google Reader. Uses all the APIs of that service to let you comment and share items, among other things.
Also, look at Flickr photos in Flipboard (mine are at http://flickr.com/scobleizer ) — they sure do look glorious on the new version.
Flipboard is a great app. It’s fun to use, and Mike is a sharp, nice guy. I look forward to them bringing Ellerdale to the app too!

you know, I’m getting the impression that this person’s barely coherent comments on RWW are related to barely coherent comments elsewhere. Looking like SPAM to me.

I just spend some time playing with the new version and it’s really taken things up quite a few notches. Not only did they add Google Reader and Flickr but they offer deep integration on the two. For instance on Google Reader I can add content blocks for all items, starred items, people I follow etc. For Flickr I can add my photostream, favorites, groups etc. Also they added similar deep integration for Facebook and Twitter as well much the same way. You can also get new Twitter/Facebook/Greader posting functionality within the app too.

I am super psyched about the Google Reader feature. By the way, I agree with Apple that Flipboard is the best iPad app of 2010.

I can definitely agree that FlipBoard is the best iPad app and use it more than anything else. What are your thoughts that they bring it to the iPhone?

Thank God there is now support for Google Reader. Now for a filter. Pagination to me is “just another pretty face.” I want Recommendation, which is “a beautiful mind.” But you already know I feel this way LOL
