The Ansel Adams gallery has a problem: there’s still a lot of demand for Ansel Adams photos (Steve Jobs allegedly has a bunch of originals in his house) but they can’t make any more original prints because Ansel has been dead for quite a few decades. That means his original prints are selling for tens of thousands of dollars (and in some cases even hundreds of thousands).
Which means most people won’t be able to put an Ansel Adams picture on their walls.
That’s changing because his grandson is leading an effort to digitize some of his photos and print them in an affordable format. But these are no mere cheap copies. They are virtually indistinguishable from the originals. Matthew Adams, Ansel’s grandson, says it’s hard for him to tell the difference and he’s around the originals all day long. Here I learn the process that they use to digitize the images. If you’re a photo geek you’ll appreciate this video.
Thanks for this video! I have been a fan of Ansel’s work since my earliest days in photography. Ansel was the first person I heard talk about digital imaging, he called it electronic film in his auto biography.

This video is the reason I hate Robert’s videos. Interesting topic – Yes. Robert’s audio bellows. Mathew’s voice is a whisper. Camera move left, right, up down making me naucous. End Result – click, exit video. If its an interview, put the camera on a tripod and fix it on the person your interviewing and mic the two of you. Run some B-Roll stuff before or after the interview and edit it together. Wild Freeborn’s cookie advert was better than this… 2.0 work dude.

Florida: for the entire last two years I had an editor and did exactly what you said. Did you ever watch? Did you ever praise his work? No? Now you know why you don’t get what you want. Doing that stuff is expensive and I don’t have the money. No one else is bringing you videos, you might ask yourself why. You think mine are bad? Go watch one from hhttp://friendfeed.com/karaswisher — I was using a monopod, by the way, which makes it much smoother.

I wonder how much “smoothing” of jumpy video the new iMovie9 would provide?

This is pioneering stuff. Digitization of legacy art is a huge industry that museums are slow to ramp on. The main problem is copywrong errr copyright laws.
