What companies are you cheering for?

You might notice I’ve been playing around with different video systems this week. I rediscovered two companies I knew about but hadn’t really used yet: Blip.tv and TubeMogul. But now that I’ve used them I find I’m cheering for them.

What do I mean by that? Well, Fast Company just released its 50 most innovative companies list and I find I’m cheering for many of the companies on that list.

Especially during the recession I’m hoping that my favorite companies find ways to survive and thrive.

So, I’m wondering, what companies are you cheering for?

Oh, and why am I using TubeMogul? Gary Vaynerchuk, who does the most excellent WineLibrary TV video show and I were doing a panel together at CES and he said “you are a complete idiot if you’re not using TubeMogul.” I didn’t want to be a complete idiot anymore. 🙂 What does it do? It redistributes, and tracks, your video onto a number of different sites. That let me rediscover Blip.tv which has the cleanest player I’ve seen (it’s the player I used on the David Allen coaching blog post I just posted).

  1. I’m cheering for #9 – Amazon.com – because our team at Smartsheet.com just announced ‘Smartsourcing’ which is powered by Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.

  3. In tech I’d like to see FriendFeed have a breakout year. As far as mainstream companies, I am excited to see how the American car manufacturers will respond to adversity. If they slim down, innovate and reorganize, I think they can compete again, and I hope they do.

  5. Not techy but… podcasting sites Pseudopod, Escapepod and Transmissions from Beyond as listening to them is the only thing that makes exercising my (ahem!) chunky behind bearable. Quite literally saved my life! Possibly…

  7. 37Signals – absolutely couldn’t live without Backpack, I love their whole philosophy for design & development and how they build their user community.

From the UK it would have to be web development / technology events company Carsonified (http://www.carsonified.com) organizers of the Future Web Apps, Future of Web Development, Future of Mobile etc events. They’re a great team, alway put on a really good show.

  9. I hate to be predictable here and shill my own outfit, but if the shoe fits…

ivi is bringing the true “What’s on?” TV experience online when everyone else is making TV more like the Internet. I wouldn’t want to live in a world without either migration, which is why I am rooting for us. We’re awesome, and we’re doing something different. Watch and see.
