Friendfeed passes million visitor mark, TechCrunch reports

Interesting, Techcrunch reports that Friendfeed has passed the million visitor mark and has grown 10 fold in just the past few months. That matches my experience as well. I currently have 26,009 followers, which is incredible growth for a service that I’ve been on for 11 months. Now you know why I’m so addicted to the service.

For anyone new to friendfeed you should watch the video linked to off of this friendfeed item.

UPDATE: I made a mistake in calling “visitors” “members.” Louis Gray pointed that out to me, so did Jeremy Toeman. I have corrected this post.

  1. I’m firmly in the ‘don’t get’ FriendFeed camp. I’ve used it, but don’t particularly enjoy the fire hose of information. Yesterday at PodCampBoulder someone asked the group of 50 if anyone was using FriendFeed, and if so, why? Nobody said they used it.

I guess I will log in again and see what the deal is, but I’ve noticed many of my friends avoiding it.

But then again, you are on it constantly.

  3. It’s my humble opinion that FriendFeed epitomizes the future of the social web and semantic web better than any other platform currently in existence. To me the Web itself is the firehose of information and services like FF are the filter to draw meaning out of the noise. The meaning arises out of the context of conversations around content. I’m harnessing the collective intelligence of people I follow, like Scoble, to increase my own learning curve. FF is an amazing tool and the future of Web based research and interaction.

  5. If you see noise on FriendFeed, click Hide. It will ask you if you want to hide similar items in the future. Explore the Hide feature and you’ll have a great signal-to-noise ratio in no time. There are even more noise-reduction features beyond that if you need them.

  7. Visitors? Oh oh, the new term for “eyeballs”?

But good for something, Twits and FF keeps the narcissistic-personality-disorder bloggers off of the blogs, sequestered into their circular virtual islands where they belong.

  9. I am always amazed at how viral these websites can be. All you have to do is make a website that aggregates data that is useful to the general public and you can have a fairly successful website. Great idea.

  11. Wow! I’m going to try that. I’ve been hearing about it but I didn’t know it could be so useful! Also, One Million Visitors is pretty impressive!

  13. Put me down as someone with zero ability to comprehend the attraction of Friendfeed, Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace. I’ve explored them all searching fruitlessly for any possible benefits. So far I’ve been able to find none.

  15. I didn’t realize how many users actually use friendfeed, what with stuff like facebook, myspace, twitter (the list goes on). There are so many services like these out there these days most people don’t want to have to keep updating several websites that all basically do the same thing.

Nice post though, can’t believe friendfeed has passed 1 million visits!
