Faster than a flying TechMeme. Deeper than a Reddit. More comments than a Digg post at Jr. High.
OK, I’m just having some fun, but I just put a link to Facebook Connect Coming to Twitter on my FriendFeed like page. If you haven’t watched that lately you’ll see a ton of stuff you won’t see anywhere else.
Watching 5,000 people tell me the latest news is changing everything about what I think news in the future will look like.
Your friends will bring you the news. Just like here.
Then we’ll talk about it. That’s my comment feed so you can see what I’m talking about.
Then we’ll blog about it, or do our own reporting.
And the cycle will start all over again.
Do you think this has anything to do with why FriendFeed is growing faster than TechMeme is?
And, want to see the news happen in real time without any filtering? Here’s the 5,230 people I’m listening to in real time. Wild.
I think that Friendfeed is “2.0” version of chat and forum system. I always use real time feature but it isn’t so accessible…what do u think?

This is wild. I do not know how you do it. You must have something in your brain wired differently to be able to handle this amount of information and do pattern matching on it.

allen: Mahalo? I’d love to hear why you think Mahalo is doing real time news.
Edwin: thanks. One thing that I have that’s different is I’ve been studying this community for a long time and have met many of the top bloggers and influencers and news makers. So, being able to see patterns there might be easier for me than it would be for someone new. For instance, if you don’t know who Tim O’Reilly is, or who Dave Winer, or who Molly Holzschlag are, you won’t be properly able to judge their news.

I channel Robert’s “Likes” through Notify.me, so I get a more or less real time update via IM. Fun stuff 🙂

Although it is cool, it looks nice, I think it is not quite usable. I mean, maybe for an automated system, but as a person I don’t find it very useful.
Cheers!

Andy, you tell me you visit http://friendfeed.com/scobleizer/discussion and you don’t find that useful? You don’t find ANYTHING there that’s useful? Wow. But, I guess not everyone will like getting news in that format. That’s why there’s TechMeme, Google News, Reddit, Digg, Hacker News, etc.

Yeah I think FriendFeed is realtime tech news. Once you work out who to to watch the experience becomes a lot better. When I first started using Friendfeed I had no idea how to use it but once I sat back a figured it out it was simply…..amazing

I still think that friendfeed is going to fail in the end. A lot of people might know how to use it but most do not know how.

Robert, that live stream link can make you dizzy…
would you agree that FriendFeed is badly in need of a “track”-like filtering functions for individual users/user-groups/rooms/etc.?
I think that whoever is first in authoritatively figuring out how to bring the aggregate feeds back to a compact/manageable/meaningful/value-added level will win big-time next year.

Alex,
That live stream link was making me dizzy too. You start reading a sentence and the next thing you know, you are reading a sentence from a completely different post. It is maddening. 🙂
I would use the pause button above the stream quite a bit. 😉

Robert,
Could you do a blog post giving the top 10 ways you parse your information flow, and which tools you use? Not everyone is as capable of sorting the flow of noise/information that you enjoy so much. I like the noise, although I am more swimming up a creek than the Niagra you are using. It would be interesting to read some of the techniques you use.

Seriously, this obsession with user-driven news has go to stop. Most of the ppl on the net don’t know their earhole from their azzhole, and to expect them to deliver accurate news to you……that’s just dumb.
Fact of the matter is there’s a very small percentage of visitors on the net who are plugged in to a certain topic and can offer relatively insightful input. The rest is just garbag….::AHEM::…..noise
Personally, I’d prefer to read one techmeme created by Gabe Rivera or one techcrunch by mike arrington than ‘listen to 5,230 ppl in real time’
