Apeer brings collaboration to multimedia files

I visited today Apeer, which has just released a P2P system that lets you share and collaborate on files. It’s aimed at enterprises and companies like advertising agencies. Unfortunately it’s not free (something I think we’ll be seeing more of in this economy) but it shows innovation in helping people work together on files in a new way that gets out of just putting the files up on a Sharepoint server or emailing them back and forth. In this video Bob Goldstein, CEO, gives me a demo of how the system works.

  9. It’s a good idea, but as an ad agency owner, I wished it was more robust.

    It would be nice if it was tied into some project management software and followed the complete creative process from start to finish (various revisions, etc.)…then at the end recorded the client’s final approval.

    Beginning to end would be ideal.

  12. Excellent idea. I could easily share my graphic comps, since email is useless for sending large files and FTP is for true geeks not graphic artists. I am going to sign up for their 14 day trial

  14. Will be crushed by Cisco, and not like the world lacks in collaborative software. Nothing here, worth taking a start-up risk on.

  18. Not True. I got the apeer trial (which I will probably become a subscriber after the trial).

    apeer is actually very different from other collaboration applications like screen sharing technologies or those that post media files to the cloud.

    With apeer you can share all the media types (video, audio, images, pdf’s) in a single shared window – with one or more people.

    You have the ability to watch and listen to the files together in real time, and the person who sends the file also has the ability to allow the others in the session to save those files to their computer – or not

    Also, unlike web based apps – Apeer sessions are private and by invitation only – providing a secure collaboration environment.

    Show me another solution like this. I do wish people would try something before commenting, so they comment from knowledge.

  24. And… provided Apple can solve the whole iChat through the corporate firewall thing tackled… Share this screen through iChat works really nicely as well. For that matter Adobe’s solution for screen sharing is nice too. Cisco… Windows 7… Not to mention everyone else. The space IS pretty crowded with some really dedicated outfits to go toe-to-toe with.
