Patrick graduates to high school

Today I’ll be attending Patrick’s graduation from Jr. High. Damn, can’t believe he’s going to high school. When I graduated from Jr. High? The hot technology? A floppy disk drive for your Apple II. I remember my dad being so happy that he got a 64kb memory card, too. That’s kilobytes, not gigabytes.

I’m so proud of Patrick who is one hell of a great kid. Count your lucky stars. Two years before he starts driving. Scary!

  1. Don’t minimize the 64KB card! It gave you 80 columns as well!
I was right there with you – had the dual floppy drive. Dual.
Just wait until the young lad graduates high school . . .

  3. Patrick, Robert and family. Congratulations. Enjoy yourself in High School. Keep a good balance of study, rec, family and friends and the world is your oyster. The learning technologies these days are incredible. Universities putting lectures in iTunes etc. Well done mate.

  5. Robert – Congrats on Patrick. Time DOES fly. Suck up every day! Mine just got her MA and is going on for her PHD. It totally boggles my mind because I still feel her age??!!

Kudos to Patrick. May he STAY on the right track … and continue to succeed going forward.

  7. Hey Patrick, it’s kristopher! Completely surprised that you weren’t already in High School when we first met! No worries though, High School should be a breeze for you.

My best advise is to simply find something that really interests you and keep at it. 🙂

I might have thought it a bit odd if my dad blogged about me going into HS to a bunch of complete strangers, but obviously as you know by now, it’s just one of the ways your dad is showing how proud he is of you and your accomplishments.

Take care and best of luck!

When I graduated from jr. high… The Commodore 128 just came out and I was still running a Commodore 64 with cassettes for my programs.

  13. Thank you all for the words. We had fun at the ceremony. It really is amazing how fast jr. High went and I’m sure this will be the same with high school. Thanks again everyone.

  15. Congrats, Patrick! I just graduated high school and I think both you and Patrick will be surprised how fast high school flies by. Before you realize it, he’ll be posting his own blog or starting at whatever career he wants to get into.

Congratulations to Patrick, you, and Maryam! Big things are happening in the Scoble household (new baby, Patrick graduating from Jr. high, new job) and I hope you know we’re all standing behind you 100% of the way!

  19. Gratz, Patrick. Sean, my son, just finished his first year in high school with flying colors so I am sure it’ll be a cakewalk for you as well. Two advices: pick your friends well and use summers wisely.

  21. Hmmm, we just had comprehensive school (now known as year 7) and I had just mastered the Apple II too.

But in other news…. Silverlight 2 Beta 2 is out and will be ‘trojaning’ its way on to all Scoble Apple devices sooner or later – check out the links 🙂

  25. When I started high school I had an Apple ][ +, hard drives didn’t exist (at least for any computer I used), by the time I graduated, the Mac had arrived. Of course, no hard disk either. My first hard drive experience was a Profile hard drive on a Lisa computer (which in the beginning Mac days was required for programming the Mac), all of 5MB. Last I checked, my Canon SLR takes photos greater than 5MB in some cases. Whoa!
