Literally. He had the first ride in the first Tesla. Siri was launched in his house. He's been the first to share all sorts of technologies and companies with you, from Flipboard to Pandora to Instagram.
Today he's focusing on mixed reality, AKA "next-generation augmented reality" which will include a new user interface for EVERYTHING in your life (IoT, Smart Cities, driverless cars, robots, drones, etc).

This world is coming in late 2017 with a new iPhone from Apple, amongst other products. Microsoft is betting everything on its HoloLens glasses that do mixed reality and the industry is spending many billions of dollars in R&D and funding new companies like Magic Leap.
This future will be the user interface for IoT, Smart Cities, autonomous cars, robots, drones, and your TV.

With the feature-set of upcoming Fedora 9, SUSE 11 and ver 8 of U/Kubuntu, they better make Windows 7 hecko interesting. Linux has come of age, minus games, the masses can now live with a basic Fedora 8 KDE 3.5 install and that will really zam up once OpenOffice hits 3. Not that I am under any Linux-weenie lucid-dreaming illusions about a Microsoft-free world (though that’s increasingly more possible), but Vista sure was a letdown, though kinda looks pretty, Aeroified in that re-skin Mac-copycat way about it.
I predict even SP1 won’t have a corporate impact, and the switchover will be in 7, so they will have to accelerate the push, shaving off a year or so, and sex-it-up early, starting now, which is what this announcement amounts to, Longhornish PDC 2003 era hype.

Mesh is cool. I predict the initial recation will the the usual “Blitzbop.com has been doing this for 37 years so no news here…” That’s fine. But for those who pay attention you’ll see that Microsoft is re-thinking how software platforms should work. No, it’s not a Google killer, nor is it intended to be. It’s just the basis for a whole new breed of killer apps.

No way, Apple has embraced the Internet and has nothing to worry about, they have their own search engine and Add program in place and are already competing with Google and will not fall by the wayside or an eventual take over target by Google.
They have clearly embraced cloud computing and have moved away from the proprietary combination of software and hardware that is considered obsolete in this day and age.
Thy will not make the same mistake again by ignoring a fast emerging market in the way that they blew their chance at the enterprise market.
Please… are you serious?

@Joe – are you joking? Apple is poised to become the next Sony – the king of consumer electronics. If you look at end-user usage on Apple’s, they use Apple for music/pictures/music, they still use Microsoft Office for Mac, and then everything else is done online with Google. Because they’re positioned at the high-end of PCs they’ll be the last to get hurt by Google’s growth or by Open Source’s growth, but they will become increasingly marginalized as we do less & less on the device and more and more in the cloud.

Glad u see what I was getting at. People are quick to say the various Linux distros are head and shoulders above XP or Vista, but as soon as you bring Mac OSX into the picture, they conveniently get very quiet. It’s odd. What Linux first has to do is beat the guy in second place. So far, they have nothing.

I’m a fan of some things Apple.. but not all and I don’t turn a blind eye to serious flaws in some of their products.
Vista had some hiccups at launch as expected. something that seems inevitable with such a large user base.

I don’t get it when people say that they are going to ignore company X or platform Y. Surely you have to use whatever your customers demand you to use. If you’re just a customer – then surely you want to use the platform that has the most applications that make you productive. Anything else is just plain stoopid.

I hope this includes something about Astoria. Google is telling developers, uh, you can’t do table JOINs, JOINs are so last year, and so is every language except for Python.

Oh, hell, I can’t stand it. Read patents 7076521 and patent 6826744 and ask yourself where Microsoft goes from here when they have RSS nodes feeding a client that can’t consume what’s being fed. And yes Microsoft is being sued over infringing 6826744.
