Guy Kawasaki calls Mike Arrington a hypocrite

This week I saw TechCrunch’s Mike Arrington write a really negative review of Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop.

So, last night, when I saw that Guy was on the same plane that Rocky and I were on, of course I couldn’t resist turning on my cell phone and asking him about the negative review where he promptly called Mike Arrington a hypocrite on live video.

Of course he also pointed out that he put me on the ego page on Alltop. Embrace the ego, I say! What does Maryam say? Whack. Damn, she knows how to keep things under control here.

So, what does my ego say? I like Alltop and am glad that Guy kept begging me to try it out. Plus, it’s fun to have a front-row seat on the ego fight between Guy and Mike.

Almost as much fun as seeing R.E.M. up close. More on that in next post.

  3. I don’t know the history of the claims to be able to assess, but I do think in a general sense, that outspokenness in one promotes outspoken response in another (Arrington to Kawasaki).

    Nice to see Robert and Guy laughing together anyway.

    To be honest…I think there is a lot of jealousy in Silicon Valley towards Guy. Guy has not become as popular as he is just by chance. He got popular by actually being a pretty cool dude that goes out of his way to help entreprenuers and pople in general.

    As for Arrington…the term you most often hear applied to him is arrogant.

  9. I blog about restaurants in London and a few of my fellow restaurant bloggers (both in London and elswhere) have been included in Alltop. So I checked it out to see what I was missing. As I understand it, food.alltop.com is a list of the most recent articles from a lot of food blogs? According to the About page, AllTop is supposed to represent “all the top” sites from the Web…

    I spent some time looking at all the blogs chosen for the food section, and there’s one blog that hasn’t been updated since January, another that hasn’t been updated since May of 2006, and Chow is (IMHO) over-represented with four or five entries. Hmmm. Food for thought, for sure…

  11. Well, we need to remember that Alltop is somewhat new, so there will be some issues. I disliked Arrington’s comments because it seemed very superficial. Alltop takes a different approach than popurls, and I think it is a good idea. I would have thought we would have gotten a better review from TechCrunch, but I am obviously mistaken.
