Off to Davos…

You might have noticed that I’ve slowed down my posting here. That’s cause I crammed a lot of family time into the past week. Gonna be away in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum. Traveling today. I expect I’ll get lots of video up on Qik on my Qik channel. I also have a Nikon D3, so will try to post lots of photos. See ya tomorrow, got about 20 hours of traveling ahead of me.

  1. What do Davos and Kenya have to do with Technology?

I hope you’re not uploading from your phone over the GSM networks. That would be fantastically lucrative for them.

  3. A Nikon D3? Wow, I can only dream!

Robert, when you mention cool equipment, could you let us know
1: When you buy equipment out of your own pocket.
    2: When it’s tax deductible.
    3: When it’s a loan.
    4: When it’s a gift.

The reason I ask is, I’m drooling at such equipment, and it’s handy to know your priorities. You won’t believe how influential your comments are on me 🙂

  5. Here’s a software idea for Qik. A system tray icon that pops up a message or maybe even pops up your video when there is something broadcasting live. The same thing as having the browser stay at http://www.qik.com/scobleizer

This way you could have thousands of people subscribing to your Qik channel and instantly seeing the video in their tray when they are by the computer, and with a full screen option even though the quality is low.

I hope that you will be able to take many questions from your Qik audience when you interview the people at Davos and that you have some extra batteries for your N95 so it’ll last a long time each day. And hopefully you can get a Swiss HSDPA sim card that works in your N95.

  7. Oh dear, that Qik site – streaming – click – stopped – streaming – click – stopped – streaming ad infinitum. Shame – I’d have liked to have watched the camera review!

  9. hi Robert,

welcome back to Switzerland. Hopefully, the clean well help you recover from your recent infection with the Jobs virus…being in the media you are probably at more danger than most normal users.

    Have fun at WEF

  11. @Andrew,

Nikon has loaned the D3 to Robert for 30 days. He has to and will return it to them at that time. As do most people who use the D3, Robert longs for one as well.

@tacogirl, Robert is a great parent. If you only knew. Granted, “Crammed” wasn’t a smooth word. 🙂

  15. What’s that Qik crap, another startup you’re “stealthily” promoting? They don’t even turn your videos into a proper podcast for viewing in iTunes, you have to view them via a browser interface. Lame.

  17. @9. “cramming family time in” doesn’t make me think “good parent”. It makes think of a parent that says: “And on top of everything else, I gotta find room to ‘cram in’ some family time”. To me it should be the other way around. “cramming in work and blogging time”

Yeah, the D3 is major droolage. Lucky you! Look forward to seeing what you shoot with it.

  23. I interviewed some Nikon representatives at IFA about the D3 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FacjKekL9Xs

I like the idea of the Casio that shoots 6 megapixel at 120fps. They should put a huge buffer and store the pictures on a 2.5″ hard drive which there is plenty of space for in such a large reflex camera. And 2.5″ hard drives are available with up to 500GB so that would store hundreds of hours of 120fps 6megapixel with sound.
