San Jose Mercury News (our local newspaper)’s photo journalist Richard Hernandez shows off the photo collage he did for the newspaper. He’s worked there for 13 years and is one of the top photojournalists in the world. Hear how he did this cool photo collage.
If you’re into photography this is a real treat.
I’m not impressed. I’m into photogaphy and found nothing of value in this collage. In fact, it looks amateurish.

Wow,
This is really cool. This is how I always imagined a history or timeline.
It’s almost like a Ken Burns movie.
Great Stuff, I can’t wait to start building mine.

Yes, very cool. At first I sort of wrote it off, but I have been thinking about the perfect way to present pictures lately and this is a step in the right direction. The typical tools in Adobe’s Elements and Lightroom produce results that seem too constraining as it takes too long for ythe user to “move around.” I don’t think the word “navigate” is right because you don’t always know where you are going. While this collage tool is linear, hopefully the balloons can be used to hyperlink within the collage too.
I think the key point is the speed that the user can move around.

I think this is fantastic, especially if it can be embedded and actually work on the vast majority of browsers (including the iPhone and other mobile devices).
That brings up the question: How does it look on the iPhone and iTouch on Edge and WiFi? Both the overall loading of the images, navigation, and the video clips.
I’m not crazy about the way images all fade into each other. I’d prefer more separation between them (I assume that’s possible) and I look forward to testing this with a recent event I attended. I’m curious how it will handle big panoramics as well.
Another fantastic tool that many photojournalists are using it Soundslides soundslides.com (Now there’s Soundslides Plus). I did a very simple Soundslides presentation of the opening of the NYC Apple Store for my blog here: http://tinyurl.com/2ez52s

That is a very cool way to show the history of the place and use images in an interactive way. I think not enough photojournalism is used in blogs. Sometimes the best way to tell a story is with an image whether it’s the queue of people lining up to buy a populat product (wii) or the image of a laptop catching fire (crap battery in it). Seth Godin a while ago pointed out a blog posting that used images to tell a story at:

Very Interesting! Thanks for the inspiration. I have been looking for new ways to present information without long, detailed narratives and boring html text. I think this will do nicelY! Thanks to Richard Hernandez for his creative work!
