I used my cell phone to record a very short interview with Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt, and MySpace’s CEO, Chris DeWolfe, about what this announcement means today.

Way to go, Robert. I love the “instantly get a reach of over 200 million people.”
But regarding this (related to the questions I just asked you in the other post), let’s say that I have my own starfish and within it are 1 million people. Who controls the advertising to those people?

This is probably the closest I can get to being a participant of the press release.
By the way are you getting any messages from me on Twitter? It shows that you are following me, but I never got any responses from you.
I gave you a bunch of questions when you asked for questions that you can ask Eric but it appears you never received any.
Anyway, here is my main question:
So far, we know that the Open Social initiative will allow widget / applet / tool developers to create stuff that will work on social networks.
I wanted to ask if developers of any social network can integrate the open social initiative into their site? If not, how can on become “recognized” as a member of the Open Social project?

To phrase my question another way, can you develop a container and that will automatically link to the Open Social database (or whatever?), or is this limited to member sites like Friendster, MySpace, Ning, LinkedIn, etc?

Let me turn off the corp/PR flak talk for you. What they both said is “we’re worried about getting smoked by Facebook so we joined forces to toast them”. They think thats significant.

Take a chill pill on the whole EXCLUSIVE banner. what you gathered here is no different from what’s reported in MSM:
don’t be so breathless. this the equivalent of Entertainment Tonight claiming to have an exclusive from Britney about her latest album.
they have a message. they’ll share it with whomever’s listening…..

Exclusive! I don’t know how (or why) you do it Robert. Putting a cell phone in someone’s face to record a video interview. I’d be super embarrassed. I know you aren’t, but i would be.

Nicely done, Robert. I agree w/ william.
Seattleheavyj, I must have missed the face-to-face video equivalent the NY Times captured. Robert’s video seems exclusive to me — getting it straight from the horses mouths is different from writing about what you heard came out of the horses mouths.

Please tell us what camera and encoding you used so we can avoid the appalling quality of this video!
I’m guessing it was your N95?
Or is it just me … the weird vertical scaling pulsing problem?

skrocki… you missed it indeed. the content is the same. form alone does not warrant EXCLUSIVE.
how is the following any different than what robert repeated here…
from ny times:
* “OpenSocial is going to be become the de facto standard for developers right out of the gate,β said Chris DeWolfe, chief executive of MySpace, in a press conference at Googleβs headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. βIt will have access to 200 million users, making it way bigger than any other platform out there.β
