I love Om Malik and am watching his new tech news show tonight. Looks great, can’t wait to see more. I’ve added it to my videos to watch and will put the best episodes on my link blog. You can see my link blog there, or on my Facebook Profile.

Robert that is the shortest and most blatant segway from a real story to promoting your link blog and Facebook profile I have seen
I now do not doubt that you could spin anything into links back to your linkblog or facebook

The problem with the internet is that there is too much information and not enough time. You go to the iTunes podcast section and there are so many interesting shows, but you can’t watch them, because you have to eat, sleep, work, ect…

BTW, Sandquist, if you’re reading through, I am submitting the last minute extra claim and evidence Monday morning before I leave for Germany. It should come in at least 2 days before the 15 day evidence and claim submission limit. It’s nothing you or Scoble hasn’t seen before so if you didn’t prep your attorney, too bad on you. See you all in 3 weeks.

I tried to watch the show and was annoyed at the production value of it all. There was nothing different from turning on my TV and watching a tech show on MSNBC.
The first thing to catch my eye was the waste of time with the intro to the show. I am watching a show on the internet to see it now, and not wait for it to start after a flashy intro. Stop with all the mess of telling people what they are watching when I clicked to watch it in the first place.
Also, donβt be so rehearsed, or is it nerves? Just sit and BS and just wing it. That is the beauty of watching these shows.

I have no idea how much visuals are involved with the show but booo to Revision 3 for not having an mp3 option. With all the shows and podcasts we have to choose from today there’s not enough time to watch them all. I can at least listen to them while working or commuting though.

@2:
There is nothing wrong with Robert pimping his own blog. A man has to do his own marketing otherwise what’s the point of having a web presence. Yes, good blogs/sites stand on their own, but good marketing, tooting one’s own horn are all valid methods. Some people call it self-serving, but hey, if it works, good on ya.
Robert, I’ve often wondered why you don’t get into pure IT marketing; I think you would be a shoe-in for that line of work.

Om’s h.264 choice and production quality… yes, Yes, YES! Love it. I really like the lead in. Superb. Segment transitions are tops.
Inaugural content will absolutely keep me coming back for the second installment.

@macbeach,
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
How could Scoble not do spotrunner though?
I went through an entire campaign with a consultant from there and will be blasting Silicon Valley TV starting in September with a barrage of adverts on Cable.
I would have liked to have seen a video before spending all that money on the adverts.
This is something Scoble could have easily done to illuminate the unique service of TV advertising from the web. He could still do it.

Robert – I know that I am probably not on your radar as my emails go unanswered, but I disagree that this was a “great show”.
Here is my very lengthy review:
http://www.centernetworks.com/review-of-the-gigaom-television-show
The show was boring at most spots, catchphrases that don’t work and just overall no entertainment value. Perhaps you can explain more in detail as to why you believe it was a great show. Otherwise this post appears to be a friend pimp (which is fine).

Allen: I’m answering very little of my email, sorry about that.
I thought it was better than some of my efforts and is well produced and looks great (I run my own camera, do my own audio, so I guess I am envious of those who have help doing such things). Not everyone’s bag of tea, I guess and because I know Om I probably am biased because I enjoy hearing his opinions on things.
On the other hand, it’s not the kind of show I would enjoy doing. I more prefer just doing conversations in people’s offices and not getting stuck in studios and all that. But that’s just my style and I can see this gathering an audience over time.

I thought it would be way better than it was. What did Om really say that was his opinion on anything?
I did think your sponsor Seagate’s CEO came across as intelligent about drives. I guess that’s good for someone whose business is selling drives π
HotorNot was not. And mentioning Lindsay was poor form.
I like your interviews.

Allen, you have zeroed in on Om Malik’s Achilles’ heel. He is utterly shallow. Makes Paris Hilton look profound. If being vacuous was a crime he would be locked up. ‘Om’ is someone out to make a quick buck without actually doing or saying much of anything at all. He can produce reams of words in a print column (quite a few misspelled and terrible grammar, too) without actually offering any actual information. There’s no there there. I wasn’t at all surprised when he was among the people accepting payola from Microsoft.
Bonus question: Why would Robert Scoble like Om Malik?

Don’t people in TV broadcasting have to be;
1. Semi-Attractive
2. An Articulate Speaker
3. Entertaining
This isn’t a knock on Om, I actually like what he has to say on GigaOM, but I don’t think he has what it takes to make it in TV land.

Tom – Wow… let’s think of Walter Cronkite or, Morey Shaffer (Safer?)… hotornot? Um, NOT! Still they had CONTENT and could deliver it. Cronkite was hardly entertaining (at least while the little red light was on).
I think what Om brings (and Scoble too) in DROVES is access to those people who either don’t want to or can’t get quality time in the MSM. These people are passionate about their stuff. They’ll take time to talk with other passionate people or conduits INTO pools of other passionate people.
I’d take Om over Katie Couric any day. Is she semi-attractive. Sure. Not sure it matters tho. Om’s got the access and content. It’s a PILOT for crying out loud! You’d think his program would have to be fully formed and Oscar quality listening to some of these folks. So, OK, launch your own successful deal and show him how it’s done. Or maybe you already have… π

You’re wrong, gwhiz. Om is not merely ugly, he is incapable of offering any intelligent insights, so his content is worthless.

@21 Sooo……stopped watching the nightly news in the 70’s huh? Seen many people like Cronkite and Safer on network or cable news lately? Neither have I. Tom’s point is that style is just as important as subtance if you want to build a meaningful audience. And Malik has neither

There is also something going on with ‘Om’ and the Other from another race/culture that gives me pause. For example, ‘om’ is considered a sacred utterance among Hindus. Yet, he trivializes it to get laughs from Westerners. I think his supposed popularity is based partly on being a ‘safe,’ non-threatening person of color.
