Justin.tv goes to FooCamp

Justin.TV goes to FooCamp and broadcasts live from there. The O’Reilly camp where you have to be invited to go. FooCamp of three and four years ago seemed more interesting. But at least I don’t have to sleep on the ground this weekend.

Anyway, I just watched a demo of Skitch on LunchMeet. You’ll actually learn something by watching that. It’s an awesome new way to edit photos and such.

  1. The problem with justin.tv and all the others is the simplicity of the flash media server/Red5 API. It’s just too easy and too many of these websites are popping up all over the place driving down the value. What happened to Kiko.com when Google made their calendar application?

I found a very niche market. Can you just buy a super site like ask.com or any other major search engine off the shelf?
Sure you can buy a cheapo interface that “looks” like them, but can you buy the DB structure, the algorythms, and the technology behind it the way you would license the Unreal engine to make a new game? What if you could buy the heart of google as a 15-50k 3-4U appliance preconfigured, where just like Unreal engine games, you could customize it and get into the search game?
That is not a huge market because of the cost, but the buyers in that market’s alternative is to build from the ground up at millions.

I wish justin.tv all the luck in the world, but they have entered a very competitive market.
