Video comments? Dennis figured out I left the channel open

It’s fun to watch as other people figure out that I left my Kyte.tv channel wide open for YOU to upload your own video. Click on “Produce on this Channel.” Then drag the webcam over to the video. You’ll see yourself (if you have a camera on your computer). Then hit record and have fun!

I’m back off to Supernova conference and will video some people there and see what happens as you all play with my channel. Love Dennis Hamilton’s comment “I’m not self conscious, not at all!” Heheh.

UPDATE: in the meantime Brian Solis is broadcasting live from Supernova. In fact, there’s a ton of live streaming going on here. Ustream.tv is broadcasting. So is blogtv.com and justin.tv. I guess the future will be videoed!

UPDATE2: a videographer from NBC news just left a video message on my Kyte channel. This is just a wacky world.

  1. I don’t think the advert dollars from these ventures cover the bandwidth expenses.

“So what does Chris de Wolfe say to those who believe there is no real money in social networking? “I would tell the sceptics that we were profitable before the acquisition,” he says.”

Had youtube come out before the acquisition, and were they forced to stream video, I am sure they would not have been profitable.

“Meanwhile the site’s bandwidth costs, which increase every time a visitor clicks on a video, may be approaching $1 million a month–much of which goes to provider Limelight Networks.”

Forbes reported the bandwidth cost of youtube at 1M per month before the Google aquisition. Had MySpace and the other pioneers of social networking had to incur those types of costs, they would hYave went bust.

Streaming Video sites are do or die if they have any kind of traffic. That’s why I’m staying away from it. The math isn’t on your side. As the hits increase exponentially so does the cost disproportionately.
