Westin, Cabo Mexico

We’re having a great time in Cabo at the Westin. Maryam’s at the spa, so I snuck onto wifi (you can get wifi on the beach here). Uploaded photos to make all of you very jealous. The Westin in Cabo rocks. I think I’ll switch from being a tech blogger to being a travel blogger. Hey, can you get paid for that? I’ll upload more photos to my Flickr stream now that I got bluetooth working from my Nokia N95.

Anyway, while I’m sitting on the beach with Maryam, Jason Calacanis is innovating in his usual style. He is trying to become the world’s first open source CEO. How’s he doing that? By asking people on Facebook and again on Linked in to help him with his CEO tasks as he builds his new search engine, Mahalo. Got a bunch of great responses on both. We’ll see if that helps him build his engine into something worthy of taking on Wikipedia or not.

While I’m hanging out at the beach with Maryam and all that I see that Rocky (my editor) uploaded five videos, including interviews with one of the top geeks at BEA Systems, plus Applebees and Aflac.   5. I can’t believe you took your nag gear on vacation. I spent all day cleaning the heads on my 4 ADATS and recalibrating them. It was so exciting. If anything rings or buzzes at me while I’m at Wacken in Germany at the end of next month it will meet it’s bitter end on the autobahn. I promise.

    “Blogs are the new new thing, the new paradigm shift, the long-tail, the Singularity progressive-enhancement grassroots Cluetrain power-ride [insert the usual statement of how everyone else just doesn’t get it]. Why of all Valley friends and hip companies are doing this (and holding parties), jump aboard the new [Insert paragraphs and paragraphs of Web 2.0 buzzwords] and then [Insert more statements of how everyone else just doesn’t get it] followed by [Insert statements from hip PR people, social marketers and A-List bloggers who DO get it].

    When I first started this there were only [insert some random number] and now, yes now, there are [insert some random eyeballs’ish number]. It’s a global revolution I tell you. Out with old, in with the new new new. What about [insert examples that are obvious here]? Why this and that [insert technology trend that took off] was once like this new trend, so get in on the ground floor baby, ground floor. [Insert yet more statements of how everyone else just doesn’t get it].

    I don’t care about [insert low marketshare number], I care about the quality of the people listening [insert name-drops serious]. But now that it’s getting some hype [insert good marketshare number] this only proves that I was right all along. Nah nah nah.   15. BTW Rocky, here’s a vid I made with my still Camera. (It’s like a 5 year old Sony camera). I cleaned and calibrated ADATs this whole weekend. I have an extra ADAT, but it’s stored, because I don’t need more than 24 Ch. I finally got the 3 ELCO cables I was asking you for.

    Weekends are pretty boring when you’re not in Mexico.

    Interestingly enough, with the momentary success of stuff like MySpace and Facebook and all these outside channel networks, suddenly bloggers, have had to expand the fence, and create a new buzzword, “social media”. It used to only be blogs — your blog was your own personal pan pizza, your own social network. But Linked In and others of that ilk, proven not everyone wants to (or has the inclination to) blog. So the rabidly-foamy blog evangelists have had to shift ground and call it social media, as that way everything and anything can fall into it. Perfect construct, expand the terms, rewrite history, and claim you were always there (or at the very least had the foresight vision).

    I should tell you, that you are in a “quiet zone” that’s more or less halfway between two really exciting places. You can head further south to the actual city of Cabo San Lucas, or you can head north to San Jose del Cabo.

    The Westin looks nice from the outside, but there’s virtually nothing else in the area to see or to do.

    If you have the time, hop into a taxi and head to Cabo San Lucas. Ask the driver to take you to the restaurant La Golondrina (http://www.loscabosguide.com/restaurants/lagolondrina.htm) for a really good dinner.
