Oracle can’t get blogging respect

Justin Kestelyn (he is Editor in Chief of Oracle’s Technology Network) lays out a decent argument that Oracle isn’t getting any blogging respect.

He’s got a point, although I am subscribed to Oracle’s blogs for my link blog, which is how I saw this post.

So, why doesn’t Oracle get any respect? I can’t remember when they did what JD did — link out to people and join the conversation. I can’t remember getting an invite to any Oracle blogging event (Microsoft, Sun, SAP, Salesforce.com, and Adobe are all companies who’ve invited a variety of bloggers over for a meet — it’s no wonder to me why they get more blog coverage).

I’d love to come over to Oracle with my video camera and learn about its business.

    I am with RedHat supporters here. That’s just lame. No wonder they don’t get respect.

    I can’t say supporting other people’s software for cheaper is a bad idea, because that’s what we do too. But Oracle can afford to build their own distro and not simply support CentOS, which RH put all the time into. We can’t. I would if we could afford it though.

    Look at this rant. I mean, the guy has no class. šŸ™‚ (joke)

    Tell oracle to get a certain software company to announce that it is directly competing with Oracle and ‘going after’ it.

    Now suddenly Tibco has 3,000 customers. Over 3 times as many and for the cost of visiting a different web page on the same site.

    Hmmmmm……
    If I was a potential customer, I would be weary at that point.

    At any rate, you should probably join ITAA/ITAC if you want to get those kinds of customers more than doing a show for Scoble. They buy ANYTHING, but Linux. šŸ˜¦ sob…. cry…. sob…

  13. Chris: no, I genuinely just want to visit every tech company in the industry. You might have missed I’ve done more interviews than any other tech videoshow online. From all sorts of companies that don’t pay us and never will.

    Why not drop by the summit?

    You can catch IBM at Linux world and also at FSF meetings and at many other places.

    I realize you can’t do every company, but what about the really important ones. I was sure it was because IBM would never fund your show, nor would red hat. I may have been wrong. Sorry.

    I guarantee you would be able to talk to them at any tech conference. I was able to and I’m not even a reporter. Then of course I worked on one of their accounts, but they didn’t know that when I talked to them.

    I agree that if you try to do it officially, you probably won’t get anywhere with IBM.

  27. Given that Oracle was looking for a marketer to act as the executive blog writer as recently as early this year, I’d say that it isn’t a big surprise that you’re not getting invitations to run around Oracle Pkwy with your cam.
    Then again, their cafeterias are open to the public so you could just hang out there and see what happens, tee hee. Bonus points if you get a shot of Larry getting into his Bentley.
