I’m here with Michael Raneri, CEO of MeeVee (an online video guide) and he was showing me that its network is getting slammed by people watching the first episode of the Tudors (which will come out on Showtime). The first episode is up on MeeVee two weeks before it’ll be on TV (it was just put up a few minutes ago). This is a new way TV networks are promoting new shows. Turns out that because of Tivo networks are having a tough time getting people to watch new shows (they don’t see the ads for the new shows) so they are doing “pre-launches” on the Internet on sites like MeeVee.
Tudors is getting tons of traffic on MeeVee

MeeVee looks pretty cool, I usually just go to tv.com to find out whats on, looks like I may have found a new favorite, thanks to you.

On firsts, they “pre-launch” to everything that moves, and toss out the DVDs like parade candy, heck I know a TV guy that fed the torrents with his managements blessing, no less. They want to bang hard with the first hit. Some neo-TV webby Guide has no exclusive, nor is this a new phenom, it’s just standard TV practices.
HBO shot down by Rome (sigh, greatest TV show EVER, RIP), And now Showtime attempts to go Young Henry, I hope it sticks. But it feels too Buffy the Vampireish style up, giving it time, but finding it hard to warm up to anyone…too Shakespearean over-the-top soap operaish.
