Visiting Firefox/Mozilla team tomorrow

I’m interviewing over at Mozilla in the morning (the fine folks who bring you the Firefox browser). I just asked my 852 new friends over on Twitter what they wanted to know and the questions started coming in fast and furious. Post yours here, or over on Twitter.

Here’s some that came in in the first two minutes after I posted. Twitter is a total firehose when you add so many people as your friends. Will be useful for someone like me to get instant feedback from an interesting audience.

  1. I’d put this on Twitter but it’s totally not working right now. How about asking the FF team why lots of sites think I don’t have cookies turned on when I absolutely do?

  3. Is there a way I can subtly suggest that you’re using Twitter incorrectly? These people should either A) Twitter you DIRECTLY and not spam the rest of their friends or B) comment on this blog. That “@” feature is going to destroy the community pretty quickly.

I was something like the 20th Twitter user (Twitterer?) and have been a huge proponent since Day 1… so I’m annoyed with the flood that the newbies have created in the last couple weeks. I got 200 text messages today related to TechFest and thankfully I was there — but if I wasn’t, I would have been immensely annoyed.

  5. Oh yeah, one more thing: you DIRECTLY MESSAGE someone by using “D [username]” instead of “@[username]”

  7. Why does Mozilla hate typographers? Or: IE4 had decent font embedding way back when. Can we look forward to Firefox moving the state of the art forward in embedded web fonts? It’s 2007 already and I’m still stuck with Verdana, Arial and Times on most web pages.

  9. Twitter is very similar to the Status feature in Facebook. Im surprised not many people allude to that.

    You keep using that word.

I don’t think it means what you think it means.

  15. When are they going to challenge Flash?

Every ‘cool’ site uses flash, the kids are growing up expecting flash animations, streaming video, vector graphics.

Why are we so stuck with HTML + flash to make things cool?

Where is my text at an angle?
    Where are my cool fonts?
Where is my animated photo gallery?
Where is my favorite streaming song?

Lets make a flash, well if not killer, at least something that does 10% of what flash does.

HTML is so static and horizontally aligned and BORING!!!!

  17. @11 When you say thay “made something like $72MM..” is that PROFIT or revenue? We all remember that Amazon generated a lot of revenue without profit for a long long time as well.

Also: almost EVERYONE hates Twitter at first.

Firefox has actually gotten somewhat worse over the last couple of years.

I think the best browser out there is Konqueror, which is the browser that Safari is based on. It only runs under *nix/BSD, but it’s a brilliant piece of software. I’ve never had it crash, it doesn’t hog memory, and it’s infinitely customisable.
