Ze Frank is in San Francisco. I keep missing Ze. Sigh. His video today has interesting thoughts of Silicon Valley and surfers in California. “This is Ze Frank hoping you have a surf board.”
But Ze could have saved some money on his travel by using new Web service CFares. Anyone compare CFares to other services? CEO Vajid Jafri says he found a way to offer wholesale prices that other services can’t offer. Here’s Vajid giving a demo of CFares.
Speaking of surfing, so far the famous Mavericks’ “Big Wave” surfing contest hasn’t happened. I hope the waves don’t come in until I’m back from Europe. That way we can do a Photowalking with Thomas Hawk there.
This sounds like copy for the 6:00 news…. very cheesy!

But Ze could have saved….? Huh? What? That’s the lamest, most forced transition I’ve ever seen on this blog. Blog about Se. Blog about CFares. But don’t try and exploit your readers’ interest in the former to sell them on the latter.
As a longtime reader and admirer, I’m really starting to worry about what “Podtech effect” is doing to you.

…uhhh, I just tried comparing CFares to Orbitz and Orbitz wins hands down. For the same flight on the same carrier CFares charged more. For the same flight!!!
Every CEO of a travel company would claim they “found a way” to offer cheaper prices than other companies. I wouldn’t be so quick to back up one company over another…

Greg: I want you to watch my videos. Sorry if I do things I want you to be aware of. Maybe you’d rather read my link blog where I link to other people who are doing things I want you to be aware of.
Tim: interesting, thanks for the info.

Robert,
Thanks for the videos about cFares. I like hearing about new sites and this one looks very interesting. You usually hear about “wholesaler” prices for international travel, and the example in the demo was for San Francisco to Hong Kong, so that may be where the site shines. With respect to Tim’s comment, I just tried a random comparison with Orbitz and cFares won. I’m not sure what that proves.

Hey Rob,
Sorry about the off-topic but today I’ve read that Jim Gray is missing at sea and I thought maybe you could write a paragraph or two about it.
Even Amazon created a website where users could check for satellite images and submit if they find something similar to his boat.

Robert, please come home soon and make a Mavericks’ “Big Wave” surfing contest video, that would be awesome. Maybe you and Thomas can hop on a boat and shoot some footage from the channel.
As for CFare offering cheaper prices, I was disappointed to see their exclusive hotel search just link to hotels.com, I was hoping for somthing more.
Why did you choose to make a video about CFare?

Gus, many companies get onto ScobleShow simply by telling me about their product and asking if I’d like a demo. That’s how CFares got on.

I did a random search too. All criteria the same using Orbitz then cFares (SFO to Vancouver). cFares came in $30 cheaper. That’s not a huge difference but if you fly a lot, the incremental savings can add up to a good chunk of change. cFares international flight savings, through their consolidator relationships/access, are supposed to offer bigger savings but i haven’t purchased anything yet.

I wondered why Ze might be in San Francisco till I read this:

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 6 — A freelance videographer, jailed for refusing to turn over footage of a demonstration to federal investigators, became the longest-incarcerated journalist in U.S. history Tuesday.

If you are a Ze Frank fan, you can go to http://www.tanga.com and click on the ZE FRANK tab. They are doing a contest there when Ze is doing a video puzzle. 14 days of puzzles and if you win, you can fly to NY to meet Ze!

Sorry, cFares is not ready for prime time. Tried it a week ago; found it to be not only buggy and slow, but… it completely hung on any multi-city itinerary I threw at it (even SFO-SYD / MEL-SFO).
I think it’s a super idea for a company (offering wholesaler flight rates direct to consumers), and I’ll definitely keep an eye on this firm… but for now, it’s way, way too early to hype ’em.
