Arrington and Calacanis announce new conference

I’m sitting with Mike Arrington right now (the guy who does TechCrunch) and he and Jason Calacanis are starting a new “demo” conference. Here’s Jason’s writeup. Here’s Mike’s.

This is a great idea. A large part of Demo is Web stuff anyway.

UPDATE: Mike asked me to be on the advisory board of this conference since I see a lot of interesting companies for ScobleShow (I don’t charge any company to get onto my show, either, except for my sponsor, Seagate, and truth be told I’d put them on my show whether or not they are paying). I’m honored to help out Mike and Jason.

  5. This makes perfect sense…it’s like PitchFest for screenwriters and the like who want to get their show idea in front of producers and the like. So many companies have great ideas, but having that kind of capital out of the starting gate can be an eliminating factor for many, let alone that there are only a certain number of slots open. What would be cool if the each pitch at the new conference could be videotaped and posted for an even wider audience to see.

  13. You generate a lot of 7-minutes demos on podtech. Why not simply add a simple contest/feedback layer on top of that and call if the Scoble100? with both a “board” and “public” scoring?

    I think that this would superior to the more traditional conference model in a few ways: 1) product are launched all over the year, 2) no one has to travel, 3) it would be more open and transparent.

  18. Robert, why did you say in one update you’d be honored to help out and then say in the next update “I think it is pretty tacky to announce…”

    Not that it is any of my business, but I’ve noticed over the past few months that you are doing a lot of updates to blog entries. I’m just thinking that blog entries are like a snap shot in time of a conversation in your head and it just doesn’t feel right to have all these updates — it is sorta like hearing you go back in time over and over about a thought you had. Like you didn’t get it out correctly the first time.

    Shouldn’t a blog entry stand on its own? Is adding additional content to an entry like editing the original entry? How are we to know when or if a blogger does changed other parts of the entry?
