Gadget sites who link…

OK, this weekend I said Gadget sites don’t link. I was wrong. Turns out Gizmodo links. So does GottaBeMobile. So does Slash Gear. So does ZDNet. So does Crunch Gear.

Where’s the other “famous” gadget site? Still no links to either this or Zink, another killer gadget, which was talked about on Don Dodge’s blog this morning. As of 7:56 a.m. (these two things were announced at 4 a.m.)

  1. Yes Robert, we at GottaBeMobile are linkers, and are not ashamed to do so. We honestly believe one of the best things we do is help out those who do not have the same RSS feeds or time to monitor them, to still get a heads up on things that may interest them. No way we can all keep up with all the good (or bad) content out there without helping each other out.

On the other hand though, we strive to do a good mix of original content as well, so that we are not just a clipping service!

To us a good site is not an island, it is a link in the chain of good information exchange.

    Nuff said.

  3. Hey, I noticed that, you have to wonder what impact your weekend had vs, their normal decission making process.
I can’t wait for Yuvi’s look into “famous” gadget sites.

  5. No, it doesn’t, you have to wonder if the value of the gadget is determined before blogging takes place. If this is the case (which I suspect it is) then what would be the critria for a bloggable gadget.
Engadget is now talking about automated garages and spanish speaking Wii.

With the speed of devlopment and the need to address a large audience’s intrest, the ability to determine what gadget is the make or break for a particular site must be a science all it’s own.

Or some dude is sitting there, scanning the internet and saying Wow, look at that!

Either way, the internet is big enough to accomidate both types.

  7. You should start your own gadget review blog. If nothing else, it would stimulate the competition.
With your unique style and large following already, it would be a hit from the git-go.

It would not have to be anything formal or video.

  9. OK, correct me if I’m wrong, but part of what I saw this weekend was a complaint that the major gadget sites do not link to all of the latest and greatest from several bloggers.
Sounds like a hole to me.

  11. Well now, the more I think of this, the better I like the idea.
You have the blogging clout to start a gadget review blog that would be a strong competitor to the “famous” sites that are out there now. You have access to a large portion of the gadget making world with connections to the decission makers.
You already have your pro and con audience with a converstaion about anything that you post, from M&M’s to China.
Your personal credo to upfront and honest is well known and you love gadgets.
The only thing I see you holding back is the amount of time that it would take… but wait! you already spend a large portion of your time scanning the web universe, it would not by much more to and posts about what you see on gadgets.

Again, it should not be formal or video, something along the lines of “Scoble’s Gadget Corner”
with unknown gadgets getting the exposure that you can bring.

  13. Robert – probably for the same reasons as they had before 1) they decided it wasn’t approporiate news and 2) they are a competitor per se of PodTech (Weblong Inc as a whole).

To illustrate, I looked at this as news for All About Symbian. I declined to post for a few reasons. 1) it’s a pre announcement of a device soon to be DEMO’ed. 2) It’s not yet available to the consumer. And 3) with phones now at 8gb capacity internally, 8gb SD cards available, I don’t see a 10gb storage device as particularly news-worthy in itself. 20gb, potentially, but I can hit 16gb in a phone with the above card and memory combo. (PS ive a homebrew coder a day and a phone can replicate this peer to peer IMO if it is something the market needs).

I’ll sit back and watch teh DEMO, and evaluate it when it’s in operation and we can see more content, but right now, this is nothing more than a “coming soon…” trailer, and I *hate* giving my readers the “maybe in the future this is something you might want” pitch.

  15. Robert, welcome to the world of high-tech PR. You can pitch your product/story to every reporter, website blog, etc., but they are still free to pick and choose what they want to cover. Millions of PR people experience this same process (and disappointment) every day. You’re behaving like a typical start-up client that’s been guzzling Kool-Aid for so long, it expects the rest of the world to share the same high. Move on.

  17. Seriously enough already! I am tired of hearing about this. The blogosphere is becoming as bad as main stream media. How long are we going to milk this?

Maybe people would have linked to the video if it was higher quality. If the sound was level and wasn’t so up and down, and you edited out the parts that were clearly suppose to be edited… like “OK I am going to start over.”

There are plenty of nicely edited podcasts out there. Wallstrip, GeekBrief, etc. If you want the media of the blogosphere to be taken seriously, you need to clean it up and make it presentable. Otherwise it’s just another YouTube video! This is your full time job, and quality is better than quantity. You have a back log of videos ready to be released, but they don’t mean crap if they aren’t nice to listen to and watch.

Enough already, the topic is dead.

  19. Robert didn’t listen to me at all, nor did he get in touch before he decided to harsh on Engadget again. Had he done so, he might have learned our posts were already in the hopper and will be going up this afternoon — with the appropriate links as for where we found them (including this site for the DAVE). Very classy, Robert.

  21. Wow Robert, do you have a brain tumour or something? Seriously? This is some grade-A bullshit stunt that you are pulling: claiming that other bloggers don’t do the ‘conversation’ properly, then crapping all over them without conversing with them yourself.

It’s like complaining about not getting a Slashdot submission to the front page, but 100x worse and more reputation-ruining.

Good luck digging yourself out of this one brother.

And yes, Engadet steals pictures and removes watermarks. It’s pretty common over there: http://dapreview.net/news.php?extend.3106

What’s the big f***ing deal about you calling out Endgadget, they act like little girls who can’t take any criticism.

Why did they blow a gasket? Because they can’t handle the truth!

If it simply wasn’t true they would have just calmly denied any wrong doing.

Stick to your guns Robert, don’t back down from Calacanacis, he’s a two-face.
