CES’s coolest toy: a dragonfly

I saw the flying dragonfly over in the Sands today. $50. The company that builds these, WowWee, has some awesome stuff.

  1. $50 for that vs. $500 for an iPod? My mind is made up … although it would be an easy decision since my 2 year old would probably break either, might as well go for the cheaper alternative.

  3. The Dragonfly isn’t a robot at all, considering that’s primarily what WowWee does now, but it may arguably be the most fun. It’s a bit of a challenge to learn to fly well, and the trick (spinning free fall) you saw in the video is new to me, and I’ve been playing with for a while!

  5. Although they have one of the worst commercials I have ever seen, the chimp “Wowee Alive” over on their website looks awesome. A perfect thing to break out in the middle of a party, when everyone has a little buzz.

  9. That’s awesome! I’m definitely going to have to get one.

That could be fun at work too, I can just imagine the receptionist’s face when a large robotic dragonfly buzzes her cubicle.

  11. I don’t see the dragonfly on their site after waiting the several minutes for their site to load — not everybody is on high speed all the time, but they forget apparently as there was no bypass.

We fly remote control helicopters sometimes and they aren’t easy. I gotta believe this little gem is more difficult to keep airborn. Wonder how many you go through before you master it.

  13. Hmm Robot Dragonfly? Might need some work on the concept – some flash memory (say 100gig), wireless connectivity, large display, and 3megpix camera and Apple may have its next big thing. Behold we have the idragonfly.
