That would require me to play pretty much any online game on public servers. Since I don’t really like most random people, that would be rather stupid.
however, that’s not really the point. I’ve no doubt that those women are more than skilled at video games. But button pushing is not exactly the same as kicking your ass.

Well yes you and Robert are talking about different things but last time I checked this wasn’t Robert’s MMA blog so most if not all references to ass-kicking here will be internet or business-related rather than physical. By the way I’m not disrespecting the skill of someone like Kathy Long.

Well, it was more of a tweak at Robert’s well – known inability to do anything that doesn’t require tech or allow him to insert tech into it. I still think he’d implode if he had to go techless for a week. I don’t think he can do it, he doesn’t have anything in his life that exists outside of it.

John: after I die I doubt I’ll do anything with tech for more than a week.
But, seriously, how do you get away from tech totally?
I do a few things to get away from tech that I don’t write about here. Why? Cause they aren’t about tech and this blog is all about tech.
But for a week without touching any tech? You’re right, I wouldn’t be able to do that. Maybe backpacking in the high Sierra, but if I did that I’d bring along a GPS, so even that wouldn’t get included.
And sitting on the beach for more than an hour bores me to tears. I’m very fortunate to be within walking distance of a beach, though, something I try to do at least once a week.

But even more important, your inability to not live in a tech cloud hurts your ability to look at it.
How can you possibly look at tech critically when you never step back and get away from it? If you’re always hump-close to the trees, you can’t ever see anything else, and you confuse a thin line of trees bordering a strip mine with a full on old growth forest.
When you’re up on tech 24×7, you lose perspective. It’s why you think that HD output is the reason for the PS3’s popularity. By that standard, the Wii should be collecting dust. But it’s not. Perspective. You get so close and focused on one thing that you cannot accurately evaluate it.
The fact that the act of being in nature without the magic box bores you shows just how little perspective you have on things.

Regarding HDTV. HDTV has, what, 2% penetration? So, 98% of the market doesn’t yet care. But those who DO have HDTV will spend the $600 to get a Playstation or Xbox.

Robert, based on your writing skills, you honestly wouldn’t know irony if it, while wearing a sign that read “Irony” bit you on your behind and left a mark that spelled out the word. Although, you may have unintentionally come close with your reply about how you “connected with the real world” by being in the same building as a baseball game, all the while caring only that you were able to blog about it. Unintentional irony is indeed sweet.
However, be that as it may, I find it interesting how you avoid the issue of the Wii in your desperation to make HD sound like the second coming of Woz. It seems odd that people with HD are buying the Wii, and while the graphics quality is not as good as the PS 3 or the 360, the Wii is selling like mad. Yet it does not possess HD. How is that possible, since according to an earlier post, it is HD that is the prime reason for the PS 3 selling well. How is that possible?
In your hurry to laugh at being scolded on perspective in a blog, (and be happy it is a blog. I find duplicating the effectiveness of tone, expression and volume that are so wondrous in person to be tedium in a plain text medium, especially when the target wouldn’t get it anyway), you show why your lack of it is so damaging to your ability to function in a tech world.
With all your nattering about HD, and specs and 1080p and the rest, you have no perspective on why people play games. Fun Robert. They play them to have fun. Not to be awed by the pictures, or the sound, not to show off the capabilities of the technology, but to have fun, and the Wii has shown that if you make the act of playing a game fun, then things like HD are of a rather lesser importance.
Tell me, what’s more fun, playing tennis on a Wii or on a 360, (assuming there is a tennis game for the 360, pretending there is one if not)? Hmm…let’s see…the former has solid graphics, but you can jump about and swing your arms and the like because that’s how you play, while the other has gorgeous graphics, but the act of playing makes one resemble a rather vocal stump. With hair.

In posts past, I explained how my son traded his new “ex”-box-360 (3 months old) in on the new wii and several other games for his other systems. (age 19) MSFiT had better get the H out of the non-operable end. This is a great forum to express what if’s. Listen or get traded in on the new techno cool stuff. Even if it is only hype and coool wannabe affect.
I don’t think his trade was a good deal, but what do I know. I am not 19 and a life time gamesman. Market focus. Listen or loose.
