  1. Robert- we’ll be looking forward to having you in Austin. Do you think it’s too late for a panel on Web 2007? 😉

  4. I seem to recall a Barcamp opposite SXSWi last year that was nothing but old timers. I’ll be in Austin, I’m not on a panel, and I’m up for something subervise for sure.

  7. I was one of the organizers of the last Barcamp here in Austin, and I’m sure we’ll be looking to do it again given the great response.

Robert/Marc, you out of towners crack me up. Salt Lick is pretty boring BBQ, and it’s like 100 miles out of the way 🙂 You have to try Rudy’s next time you’re here. It’s a combination gas station/restaurant, sarcastically voted the “worst BBQ in Austin” many years in a row…the locals think it’s the best 🙂

  10. Richard,
What locals think that Rudy’s is “the best?” No way. Ben’s Longbranch, Berts, and the outlying Lockhart and Taylor are the best. Though Salt Lick is okay it is too often inconsistent on quality. Perhaps we should take an afternoon and go somewhere good. Geek BBQ trip anyone?

  13. There is a historic dive called the Taylor Cafe. This place is for those wanting a blast from the past and the ancient ambiance of a bygone era.

  15. Oh dear, did I just start a comment war on Austin BBQ? 🙂

My very scientific anecdotal evidence is based on many company sponsored and private function outings to Salt Lick wherein a majority in attendance used the phrase: “Huh. Rudy’s is so much better than this”. I don’t claim to have countywide expertise, so if you dig those I’m willing to consider that they may in fact be, ahem, rump and haunches above the rest.

Who knows, if we could get a concensus, maybe BarCamp SXSWi 2007 could be BBQ catered 😉

  18. Yes Richard, you did. 😉 But if you have to debate something it might as well be bbq. With BBQ there are no losers. Well, not really but we can pretend. 🙂
