Back at Microsoft today

Got a very warm welcome back at Microsoft yesterday. Hung out with some of the top Windows Vista folks, was over at the Tablet PC team hearing about their latest UMPCs, spent a fun hour with Buzz interviewing the Windows Quality team (the folks who get your reports after your computer crashes), then hung out with the MindCamp folks for a fun party and dinner.

Today is just as packed in. Interviewing the Zune team, getting a tour of Research, before heading over to Pioneer Square to see some startups (Pluggd is first on list) before heading to University of Washington (Keene Hall) to interview Woz in front of an audience of hundreds of people tonight.

Anyway, I got an interview with Joe Kraus, CEO of JotSpot up (he was also a founder of Excite at Home, so he’s seen the ups and downs of Silicon Valley).

I’m sorry about only having one microphone so you can’t hear my questions very well. I have several more interviews I did that way, but now I have a second microphone so in the future this problem goes away.

  1. You can never go home again, unless I mean you go home to visit and see all of your cool friends. Then you can go home again, but I mean i don’t think that’s what the dude who came up with that folksy metaphor meant.

How about this? You can always go home again, except when you can’t.

  3. Running it thro the snark filter, sorta like a Photoshop plug-in…

Top Windows Vista folks? Too bad there will be different cast of characters almost before the video be encoded. More Tablet UMPCs? Which will be promptly ignored, by say 99.8% of the population. Windows Quality team, busiest team at Microsoft. Might become even more vital in the broken ‘we-tried-to-fit-it-together’ Vista era. More reports ahoy! Zune’ing into 1%, joke of a joke, but letmee guess, the first stage in some blatherish ecosystem. And visiting more money-wasting justify-job MS Research projects, smarty ideas, horrid code. Then a start-up bounce-ball tour, to hear Woz spew the same lame ole-school ego-festy anecdotes on his narcissistic self-promoing book tour.

PS – At Excite at Home? So how come he’s not in jail? Isn’t former employment there almost an entrance ticket to Club Fed? Well, in a perfect world. šŸ˜‰

  9. Dave:

Well, the difference between WSU-UW is about 5 hours travel time, quarter system versus semester system (as I recall), and different football teams. The last feature is cause for fisticuffs, although I notice there is great tolerance for WSU affinity plates in UW territory. (I don’t have either on the orcmobile, so I can’t tell you what the actual perils are. I should ask an insurance agent. Heh.)

  11. no need to apologize about not having a second microphone. Hearing your questions will likely now make the videos LESS interesting.

  13. Mr. Scoble,

How about a blurb on MSDN and the attempts to reach the Star Trek Enterprise interface/ replacement and the SAS/SPSS applications?
