I'm seeing a ton of trackback spam here lately. What's going on? Someone is stealing my content, then tracking back to my blog here, all in an attempt to get traffic and spiders to come and visit. I've been marking all these things as spam. I think that Akismet (the blog spam killing service I've been using) has been using that feedback because other bloggers, like the BestBlog blog, notice that the spam problem gets better over time. I won't link to the sites that are doing this spamming, but if you go to centplus.com you'll see one such spam site.
I hate sites like this!
Same has been happening to me lately, very annoying; the last one I got was from a casino site, totaly unrealted from the actual post of course!

Yeah, I’ve seen an increase as well, and most are unrelated to the original post as Darren mentioned. Akismet seems to handle the bulk of them though, and I only end up moderating a small number.

Yep, I’ve been seeing the same thing and Akismet has started to pick them up and require moderation – hopefully in a few days it will pick them up as outright spam and not bother me about it.

Those spammers will stop at nothing! And the annoying thing is that your trackback Scoble showed up in the akismet cue. It’s a good thing that I spotted it.

I’ve recently had huge amounts of trackback spam. In the past I moderated all comments to my little blog, because I couldn’t find a suitable solution that didn’t require hacking of my WordPress code.
A couple of days ago I discovered Spam Karma 2 which works as a plugin and it’s incredible at detecting and reporting spam.

hi
same to me – but we (friend of mine and me) solved a big part of the problem by installing mod_security und deny_hosts on our servers. so the most homepages and blogs which where hosted on no-panic.at (main domain) get less spam, around 80% till 100%.
and the next way to build a trackback-barricade is using akismet at wordpress and serendipity blogs.

Yeah, there seems to be a huge spike in trackback spam over the past week or so. Thank god for Akismet is all I have to say.
The problem with using ipchains, denying, etc. is that most of these trackback spams are not coming from a single IP range. It almost appears as if there is a virus or trojan out there at work, hijacking computers and using them to auto-post the trackback spam. Most of the IPs I am seeing are from Europe, South America, and the Pacific rim.
Cheers.

I noticed an explosion of comment and trackback spam at MSN Spaces about three months ago. The comment spam has just about disappeared the past few weeks and the trackback has tapered off. I have the feeling that MSN is working on this behind the scenes. Unfortunately, the only thing I can do to control it on my blog there is constant vigilence and spam deletion. 😦

I’m getting about 5-10 spam trackbacks per day on MSN spaces – mostly from a handful of sites. I’d like to be able to report trackback spam to MSN. Also wish the interface for managing it was a little better on Spaces.

Isn’t linking and mentioning sites like Cen*** giving them more press and search engine visibility?
