Bill Gates in Fortune, but we noticed something small on his desk

Heheh, Bill Gates is in Fortune with a picture of his desk. That's all nice, but what do I see? Yes, a Channel 9 guy! I tell ya, he's everywhere geeks wanna be! 🙂

  1. As long as Bill keeps giving out the impression that SharePoint Portal Server is productive right out of the box, I shall stay employed as a SharePoint consultant.
I liked the Post-It notes he had stuck on his Tablet PC. Hasn’t he been through OneNote training yet?

  3. Bill’s office looks surprisingly normal, except that it’s probably inside a secret lair in a hollowed-out volcano.

  5. Chris: nah, it’s just in one of our boring office buildings like everyone else. I’ve been in his office, other than being probably six times as big as my office, it’s pretty damn similar. Nothing ostentatious at all. Certainly nothing as cool as this: http://www.poetictech.com/aura/index.html

  7. I gave away all the little guys you gave us at CES to some neighborhood kids. A few days later I saw the neighborhood dog running down the street with one in his mouth. Oh well.

  9. Or is Bill starting to look a little old?

I think it’s cool he doesn’t use any paper – Microsoft is good about that internally, the least amount of paper possible for most tasks.

If only everyone had Tablets in the rest of the world. 🙂

  11. So ADD email overload, digital-lifestyle overhyped fritz, no to-do lists and Sharepointisms with OneNote random scribbles, and that’s a virtue?

Nothing CRM? No Microsoft Project? (Project is one of the BEST, yet least mentioned Microsoft tools, always found that odd).

To me this reads scatterbrained, micro-manager always on wild tangents and special geek-toy projects.

  13. He DOES look old. He looked much better in this picture only a year or so ago:

Or, maybe I was just distracted.

I’ve noticed the same thing about Jobs. They have both become old men all of a sudden. I can empathize.

  15. Frankly, I really think the channel 9 guy should replace “Jack” of Jack in the Box fast food fame. Maybe this will be the beginning of that breakout run.

Also I think the rumors that Robert was the inspiration for the Channel 9 guy are totally FALSE!

  17. mattijle: scroll down to the bottom of the article. There is a picture of Bill Gates holding a Tablet PC. On the desk behind him you’ll see a yellow Channel 9 guy.

  21. The article was a nice one, but looked more like a promo for MS products.
PS: I am not a MS critic, but a longtime fan of Microsoft.

  23. It’s funny how many people buy everything they are being shown.

BillG travels so much around the world that it’s hard to believe he’s being in an office more than an hour in a month.

  25. Ever think he’s human, and actually works? Today I go from 9 to after 7 without any real stops. So I will look a bit frazzled too. But that photo of him isn’t the best. When Gates was here at the UW a few weeks ago, he looked like he usually does.

  27. Wow…that was a great Computerworld article…

“The idea of large businesses acting on strategies that were created in meetings where no one was giving matters their full attention just boggles the mind. Such group behavior amounts to a collective attention deficit disorder.”

Yeah, and bloggers are worse. This is what really bothers me about the whole blog geek crowd (Microsoft in particular), they can’t sit still or focus, it’s all informational strobe lights on seriously high volume. Can drive someone, not on the 60 second attention-span highway, quite insane. It’s like trying to carry on a meaningful conversation with say, Beth Goza, for more than 5 mins, while sticking to one topic, it just ain’t gonna happen.
