Happy Sizdah Bedar

Today is the 13th day after the Iranian New Year, or Sizdah Bedar, which means Iranians get out of the house. It marks the return to ordinary life. It is believed that joy and laughter clean the mind from all evil thoughts, and a picnic is usually a festive, happy event.

Today is a nice day here in Seattle land, so I'm taking Maryam to the Tulip Festival. But first we're going to Maltby's cafe for lunch. It's a great place. Has the world's largest cinnamon rolls.

Hope you get away from the computer and have a good day. I'll post some pictures on my Flickr feed later.

  1. Thank you Robert;
    Now it’s 14th day of new year and “Sizdah Bedar (13 Bedar)” is finished in Iran because I’m posting this at 12:14 AM.
    I didn’t go out and was working with my PC and reading books. Roads were crowded 😉
    Hope that you enjoy your “Sizdah Bedar” with Maryam there. Send my greetings to her 🙂

  3. I need help Scoble:
    Is there a human on the Vista team, who’ll assist me? I wanted to find the specs required for Vista. I am planning to buy a laptop this month.
    Thanks.

    Happy Sizdah Bedar 🙂

  5. re:Maltbys,
    I expected this place to be yummy and chummy – it was neither. The food was VERY plentiful but greasy and tasteless. I agree that plentiful is not the same as “good”. If you have no taste buds and a huge stomach, then go to Maltby Cafe. Otherwise, even Applebee’s has better tasting food. And the ambience is non existant – as is the service. As is the though put into the waiting area (no chairs, packed with people that have not read these reviews yet, line for paying is the same line as that for waiting and you wait to do BOTH. I’ll never go back.

  7. I like Maltby’s Cafe. Before we moved to Monroe, we started stopping by there once in a while for breakfast or brunch. Good stuff. I generally get decent service and their scrambles are definitely head’s and tails above Applebee’s (puleeze!). Greasy? Not been my experience. Is it the best brunch in the world? No, not by a long shot. Still it’s pretty tasty and I’m a foodie. Though, Robert, re: cinnamon rolls – I make it a point never to eat anything larger than my head. 😉

  13. This is our fourth time to Maltby’s and I’ve never had greasy food there. I guess it matters what you order, though. As for waiting in line, today was the longest we’ve ever had to wait. Total time? 10 minutes.

    But, I wish that people who have nasty things to say would give us some alternatives. We’re always looking for new and good places to eat.
