Rick Segal: Robert Scoble should be fired.
Of course he has an ulterior motive.

Literally. He had the first ride in the first Tesla. Siri was launched in his house. He's been the first to share all sorts of technologies and companies with you, from Flipboard to Pandora to Instagram. Today he's focusing on mixed reality, AKA "next-generation augmented reality" which will include a new user interface for EVERYTHING in your life (IoT, Smart Cities, driverless cars, robots, drones, etc). That's based on his view thanks to his past experience as futurist at Rackspace. Best place to find Scoble? On his Facebook profile at https://www.facebook.com/RobertScoble He has been a technology blogger since 2000, was one of five people who built Microsoft's Channel 9 video blog/community, worked at Fast Company Magazine running its TV efforts, and has been part of technology media businesses since 1993. ++++++++ SPEAKER PITCH: Apple and Facebook now have revealed their Augmented Reality strategies, which means your business needs one too. Rely on Robert Scoble, the world's top authority on AR, to bring to your conference what businesses should do next. SPEECH ABSTRACT #1: TITLE: The Fourth Transformation: What's next in mixed reality (AR and AI) and the future of technology? Here's an example of this talk at Leade.rs in Paris in April, 2017: https://youtu.be/52_0JshgjXI Why "the Fourth Transformation?" Soon we will have phones and glasses that do full on augmented reality. Everything you look at will potentially be augmented. This world is coming in late 2017 with a new iPhone from Apple, amongst other products. Microsoft is betting everything on its HoloLens glasses that do mixed reality and the industry is spending many billions of dollars in R&D and funding new companies like Magic Leap. This future will be the user interface for IoT, Smart Cities, autonomous cars, robots, drones, and your TV. This is a big deal and Robert will take you through what mixed reality is and how it will change every business. Learn more about Robert's speaking style and contact his agent at http://odemanagement.com/robert-scoble/Robert-Scoble.html ++++++++ SPEECH ABSTRACT #2: "The Next Two Clicks of Moore's Law." Over the next four years, or two clicks of Moore's Law, a ton about our technology world will change. Scoble will bring you the best from his travels visiting R&D labs, startups, and innovators around the world. He views the world through his rose-colored-mixed-reality glasses, which will be the new user interface for self driving cars, Smart Cities, IoT, and many other things in our world. He'll send you off with some lessons for companies both large and small. ++++++++ SPEECH ABSTRACT #3: "Personalized Meaning: What is Augmented Reality For?" As we enter a far more technological world where even cars drive themselves, I predict we'll see a blowback toward the analog, more authentic world. What role does augmented reality play in both worlds? Get Scoble's insight into where augmented reality is going, see tons of real-world demos, and understand what he means by 'personalized meaning.' I totally agree with him. More Scoble, not less. Kudos to Microsoft for letting you off the PR department’s leash ๐

Jeff, there have been, what, 124 comments on Mini Microsoft? Anyone who says that’s representative of how I, or 60,000+ employees feel, is just nutty. Nutty. Nutty. I’m sure you’d attack me if I wrote that.
I like Ballmer. He built this company’s sales force and he’s a lot of fun to listen to. I guess that proves that you won’t please everyone no matter how successful in life you are.
Not to mention that almost everyone on Mini-Microsoft’s blog is anonymous. So, how, again, do you even know they are Microsoft employees? You don’t.

Free rants or not, I agree. The human voice always adds far more to a company than any amount of formalised PR.

I think MSFT should keep you until you get old and boring. Yeah, sometimes you get all upset and say a few crazy things but more often then not you keep it under control. At least you try to get things right even if it takes a couple of tries. Some people don’t even care about being right as long as they can get some attention.

You seem to scare a whole lot of people, Robert. Or at least make them very, very uncomfortable.
Good on ya.

Indeed, we need more Scoble. I’ll find the time some how to read all the posts.
By the way, Scoble, your website here is setting off my MSN Toolbar phishing protection thingy, so I reported you. ๐

The link to the “fire the CEO” link is soooooo interesting. I just blogged this morning about how similar the Vista situation is to another huge “out of control” product I was heavily involved in: dBASE. The same thing was happening on that product team, it’s all so similar. Employees felt disenfranchised, angry, felt that management had misled them and was putting them in a no-win situation. MS really better wake up. The Vista development team must be going through hell right now.

What an ego. And don’t forget that by acting like you did the last few days, you are also saying it’s ok to work on week ends. Let’s get it clear, you could have said on friday evening : “this SmartHouse article is incorrect. Microsoft will post a press pass on Monday”, but you chose a different path. You think that doing so you are engaging customers at all? You are doing everyone a disservice.
You are not transparent. Go resign, pretty please.

Heheh, I’m getting whipped by an anonymous “Mike.”
I’ve gotta have an ego to take this abuse day in and day out. Thanks for noticing!
Also, this isn’t my work. It’s my personal blog. Thanks for noticing that also.

Also false. You said you are a MS spokeperson, so this is not your blog at all. Sure, you may login with a non-Microsoft account, etc., but what you talk about whenever it is Microsoft related is Microsoft intellectual property. Anything you do under your work contract is theirs, not yours. Unless you lied when you said you are working for Microsoft.

Mike: well, this blog has many roles. Sometimes I’m just myself. Like now. Other times, when I’m quoting a Microsoft spokesperson, I’m acting in more of a spokesperson role. Or, when I’m passing along factual stuff from inside Microsoft.
But, usually I’m just myself here. Sorry you can’t see that a blog has many roles.
Microsoft does NOT own my content here.

It’s not a matter of blog, it’s a matter of speaking. I would be extremly surprised that your contract does not tie you, since that’s what almost any corporation in the world does.
