I think I’ll start a list of 10 lists about Microsoft done in the past few days. Here’s a couple:
Bink has “what can we expect from Microsoft in 2006.”
Mary Jo has “The 10 Biggest Microsoft Surprises of 2005.”
Any others?

1. Vista arrives just in time, late 2006, to collective yawns…another year or two before uptake. Microsoft Marketing and Blog fest ahoy to get Vista off the landing pad.
2. Office 12 even more of a yawner.
3. Dynamics won’t be dynamic. No green in that Project. Rebranding trainwreck. BU and ERP will crash into brick walls time and time again.
4. Xbox continues the bloodlet at a massive pace, Xbox Part 3 (beyond 360) might be the charm. Console Wars 2006. Buzz already waned on 360.
5. SQL 2005, Exchange 12, Server 2003, Server Family – Massive pickup. Full speed ahead, might even profit-center soon.
6. MSN/Live/Hailstorm and Google copycatting and general Fuzzy Wuzzy Ozzie’isms, will spin milk into cheese, create a few dozen more buzzwords, pleasing the Web 2.0 cultists, but not make any market headway whatsoever.
7. Stock will stick, steady as it goes. Increased calls for Ballmer and Gates heads.
8. Tablet PC. What’s that? Biztalk, Infopath – Survey says, Nope. Mobile (Photon) and SmartPhone – forever blowing bubbles.
9. Major legal headaches over, but new ones to replace old, EU and etc. And obvious as day is blue, tons more security headaches, with massive OneCare resentment.
10. Software Assurance revolts loud-volume serious.

The biggest 2005 Microsoft surprised for me was not having a product that is competitive with the iPod. Obviously, making the software and leaving the rest to Creative, iRiver and the rest isn’t working. Apple continues to reap a lot of free press and nobody is talking about “Plays for Sure” devices.

about that announcement for Macworld, 20 bucks say we’ll see this:
http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/patent_peek_apple_notebook_with_integrated_ipod_mini/
and then Apple would tout the fact that they have all Vista bases already covered…
btw Scoble: I think Microsoft should extend the auxiliary display concept to *dockable light smartphones* … that way it’ll be much more useful for ppl who move arnd a lot…

You 360 bashers are either complete idiots or you have never sat down in your own living room with a 360. If Microsoft has done ANYTHING right, it’s this damn console. It’s the trojan of all trojans.

Farooq, as a home technology enthusiast, I see a whole lot of potential for auxiliary displays in the home. I see them replacing clocks in the future. Why look at a clock when you can look at your appointments, the 3 day weather outlook, the time, if you have any emails.
Build it and they will come, builders will put this stuff right into living rooms.

Xbox360 is much more advanced and powerful than the ps3 or revolution. Has 5xmore system memory bandwidth, only using 1/4 of graphical powerful with launch titles, and alot more processing power.Major Japanese developers supporting 360 all the way. I love what you guys do, and just keep doing big. All the ps3 is xbox1 graphics at a higher clockspeed, with nowhere close the online service, less processing power, and no harddrive support, and the graphics or should I say CGI of the games is not next-gen. Where as microsoft has graphics that are what consumers and gamers want to see 7 years down the line. Saying that Gears of War is not even sratching the surface of the graphics power is pretty sick.I can only imagine what the graphics will look like when they do push the 360’s full potential and are using 100% of all the multi-core processors w/the HT’s. Microsoft WILL if not already take the japanese market by storm easily. Sony needs to worry about going bankrupt, and stick to what they know by making better T.V.’s,because hitachi, samsung, and panasonic are blowiing them away in that department.

Microsoft I think during the development of your bigger HD’s for the 360 you should install a Windows XP or Vista program unless you’ve already done that. Imagine surfing the web on the 360.Just a thought. You guys are geneouses at what you do,and the 360 is indeed phenomenal. Thanks and happy holidays.

Andre, well that ‘genius’ includes about 4 to 5 game freezes per gaming session. Overheats (PSU or GPU), buggy games, bad DVD or HD drives, whatever the cause, to whomever you decide to lay the blame, it’s the only console I have ever played where freezes are a feature. Some genius.
And while I totally dismiss your technical specs (plus the final system is not out yet) the Sony play is about far far more than games, think Blu-Ray, which was just Japan-USA region coded as one. Nintendo is all about game play.
I was only half warm on PS2 (nice but by 2005 way too dated), so Xbox was my unit. But after that launch and playing with 360, I (like tons of others) are waiting to see what Sony has. Well plus given the fact I can’t even get my (half a scam) pre-order filled until like March 2006. Too expensive to manufac, chip shortages, logistical nightmares (becoming an international joke) whatever the cause fix it. And in the Dew era I was a die-hard firefly buzz’er. Takes a rare talent to first generate that marketing level, but to then not deliver. Ouch. Your worst enemies are former friends spurned, nothing stings harder than a gift rejected. Just like MFST’s worst enemies (the ones that really hit where it hurts) where but once employees.
already take the japanese market by storm easily
Wow such brazen dismissal of the obvious facts. You should be awarded an MVP, pronto. DOA4 can help, but PS3 will lick 360 just on market share merit alone.
But 360 as a XP or Linux box, yeah, would be nice. Hopefully the modders can mod that in. Unless they make reverse engineering a crime.
