Silly post

MarkL said he noticed lots of people staying late a few nights ago in his workgroup at Google. I was wondering just what they were working on. The Official Google blog might just provide some answers. Heh!

Sounds like they are gonna play some pranks on someone. I am glad I’m not the one who comes back to work to find 250 lbs of Silly Putty in my office!

A friend, though, once told me about a prank he was involved in. They filled some exec’s office with, if I remember right, ping pong balls. All the way to the ceiling.

Well, hope your week is filled with silliness!

  1. I’m glad to see Google employees working so hard. This stuff is going to come back and bite them in the ass someday, in my opinion. Posts like this won’t look so good when the stock is tumbling and shareholders are asking questions about how their money was being spent.

  3. Ahhh, easy. The harder you work, sometimes the harder (and weirder) you play. Awd when the bubble pops for Google (and it will, oh it will) there will be lots more blood on the floor than just Silly Putty posts.

  5. I use to work at Dow Corning where the raw form of Silly Putty is made and often times they would do employee give-aways of a steel drum full of Silly Putty. It wasn’t the pink variety though, this stuff was more of a colorless white and a bit greasier (maybe thats why they gave it away?)… anyway it was common to see large grapfruit sized balls of the stuff everywhere.

One day I took the material and rolled it across my dry erase board and it lifted off the marker. So I then took to ‘coloring’ it by marking on it then kneeding it throughout the material. Soon I had beutiful colored balls of Blue, Pink, Red, Orange, etc. of Silly Putty. I showed other people and they were soon making colored versions.

Anyway you’d be suprised at how hard the stuff is when in volume, and how difficult it is to manipulate. One fun thing you can do is to take a small piece of it and hit it with a hammer. At sufficient force it will literally shatter, like glass.

    Fun days. 🙂

  9. I remember when MS used to do this same kind of stuff… the fun good old days… now I’m sure you would have to fill out three TPS worksheets and file a 900gb-1 to get a meeting scheduled for by-off from key prank stakeholders prior to any budgeting for the prank start launch.
