Ray Ozzie sent me and Irish podcaster Tom Raftery some email at 6 a.m. on Christmas eve. Was that a way to tell those kids over at Google that “we can work even longer hours than you do?” Heheh.
Then he wrote a blog post. Turns out he’s testing the new Treo. Being CTO of Microsoft does have its privileges!
When showing my phone around I actually get a lot of questions about whether or not to go with a keyboard-style phone. Here’s why I don’t: I used to have a Blackberry (back when I worked at Fawcette) and I used it so much that my hands hurt. Really hurt. I lost my Blackberry in a cab in New Orleans and my pain went away. I realized then that it was the thumb keyboard that was causing my hands to hurt. Let’s face it, I was addicted to that thing (and this was before blogging, imagine if I could post from my phone!)
So, now, I avoid any device that has a mini keyboard. Why? Because it’s too hard to use T9 to type emails or blog posts. I can read them just fine, but replying is hard so I wait until I’m on my Tablet PC and have a wifi connection.
Here’s a tip, though. If you want me to call you back make sure you put your phone number on your email post. Make sure, also, to put hyphens to connect the numbers, like this: 1-425-205-1921. Outlook on SmartPhones automatically turns that number into a clickable one, so it’s very easy to call you.
Cingular 2125 (phone of Scoble) and Treo 700w (phone of Ozzie) are both cool Windows Mobile powered phones but let’s don’t forget that Motorola Q is coming next month too – it is powered by Windows Mobile and powered by smartphone, not pocket pc and is flat, flat like RAZR.
Maybe Motorola Q could be good compromise between ‘smartphone’ and ‘PDA phone’ for you, Scoble!
BTW: do you have Toshiba M4 Tablet PC?

Yo, Scoble, what ever happened to self-imposed, disciplined moderation? If we all didn’t have that, we’d cancel our DSL, wouldn’t we? 😛
I have a treo 600 now (a used Treo 650 on ebay was WAY more expensive, and a new one? Fuggedaboutit!), and I’m pretty happy with it, ‘cept for the camera which I KNEW would be a piece o’ crap anyway.
But I have to admit to being a bit envious of my friends with the windows mobile Audiovox thingies. Those seem really slick, and a lot less weight/bulk to carry around 🙂

Wait, this “smart” phone requires dashes to recognize phone numbers? Sounds dumb to me. I pretty much never use dashes anymore – spaces seems fine and I often omit those.

Hurt or no hurt, sometimes I just have to reply a sentence or two.
“Getting lunch, BRB.”,
“I agree”
“Running late. 10 min”
“Selma, please quit writing those kinds of emails, it’s just not going to happen. Loved you in Desperato though.”
You know how it is.

And if you want phone numbers to be recognized in your phone Outlook calendar, simply put tel:”phone number” without the quotes

hi robert,
the treo rocks my world. the treo 650 (palm OS) rocks my world even more.
i managed to move 2 high profile websites from one hosting environ. to another, managing the DNS and from my treo 650, while visiting my folks for a weekend.
the treo rocks. and well, palm inviting MS to play on the hardware will hopefully have a good effect on treo sales.
and tom was probably awake by 6AM (GMT 🙂 )

I know this is kinda an old thread but I was interested in clicking on phone numbers with explorer or opera on windows mobile phone. This would be a good script to write into a browser because so many people use these things to look up phone numbers. Anyway, I’m happy with my Motorola q and find the extended battery can last me almost two days with moderate use. The key to long battery life with any phone is turning off programs you aren’t using and the way MS has hidden KILL ALL is the opposite of user friendly. I wouldn’t trade it though.
Anyway, anyone know how to make phone numbers on mobile web browsers come up clickable to dial?
