Just saw this one over on the forums on Channel 9. It’s Thomas Friedman on the Other Side of Outsourcing. Very eye opening video. Thomas Friedman is someone I want to have dinner with. He did this video for Discovery Channel but he’s the famous journalist for the New York Times.
I’m most of the way through this video. It’s a must watch.

I agree. The video brings Banaglore alive to people that have never visited India. I use it in my classes and executive education sessions to discuss the broader shifts underway: it’s not just about insourcing or outsouring. It’s not about offshoring or onshoring. It’s about the shifting geography of work because of the technology. It creates second-order effects that Tom Friedman shows in the video.

I would like to say that this video is quite accurate from an Indian perspective as well. The final 1/3rd of the video is even better than the rest of the piece, which is itself pretty good. Must watch for all those who want to understand what the heck a “global economy” means and to understand that while outsourcing benefits everyone; we need to expand the sphere of globalization so that it benefits more people (and not just 3 million out of 1.1 billion people). It underscores the need for basic amenities like water, sanitation, nutrition and education for most of the developing/”3rd world” countries.
