I’m Bluetoothing

I just got a Motorola H500 Bluetooth Handsfree Headset. Took one minute to set it up. Works great. Less filling. Er, no wires ma!

I LOVE my new phone. I’m going around Microsoft like a giddy kid who just got a new Christmas toy. It even works in the hallway by Jeff’s office (that’s our real-world cell-phone test — if it works there it’ll work almost anywhere).

Anyway, I’m now one of those dorks who wears a headset around everywhere looking like I’m talking to myself. Dorky dorky dorky.

ok ok, so to tame the rant: a nice idea ruined IMHO 🙂

  5. Hi Robert,

I hope you make your readers aware of a problem called cell phone radiation. I remember the days when I knew only 1 person with a brain tumor. Now I know way to many and many of them are young kids. The one common bond that I found with many of these people and there tumors was excessive cell phone usage.

There is a product that they have made in Spain which reduces the radiation from cell phones by 50% and at the same time it helps increase your cell signal up to 26%. The cell phone companies might say there is very little radiation but the product uses the radiation from the phone to enhance your signal. If there was very little radiation then this product would not work as well as it does. You may not notice an increase in your cell signal if you recieve a good one all the time but that does not mean it is not working. I used to have to go outside to use my cell and after sticking this product on my phone I now can use it anywhere inside my house. I have limited my cell phone usage tremendously and when I use it I use the speaker phone. Another thing that helps is to make sure your antenna is up while it is in use.

I sell many products and one of those products I could promote is these bluetooth headsets but I have decided not to promote it because you are just asking for a brain tumor. It is a cool concept but until they fix the issue of cell phone radiation it should be sent back to the store or website you bought it from immediately. A cell phone has saved an enormous amount of lives but it also is taking many away.

It becomes a lot harder to blog when your dealing with a malignant tumor inside your head. I enjoy your blogs so take back the blue tooth and use the speaker phone.

    Thanks,
    Antonio

  7. I bought the Motorola HS850 when I moved to Verizon and E815 Moto phone. It’s worked from day one which is the best compliment I can give any mobile device. I don’t use it as much as I thought I would but it’s great in the car and the train/bus commute into Seattle each day.

The other bluetooth device I can’t live without is my Logitech MX900 mouse! Expensive little sucker but worth every penny.

Hard-of-hearing people resist wearing visible hearing aids because they can be seen, and only in recent years have hearing aids become small enough to be use more ubuquitiously. Yet, note the explosion of those big blue tooth ear extensions on people who aren’t hard of hearing.

I found the only issu there is that the earpice covering tends to get lose and falls away. I had to hunt for my secondary piece when that happened. I use a plamtronics hooked to my berry.

Its great, expect when you forget that u have it on and jump into the shower. Once bitten twice shy, so I buy cheap stuff :)-

  15. I’m not going to link particular studies here, but there are no definitive links between cell phones and cancer/tumors. Do a search for “do cell phones cause cancer” and you’ll get many results. These aren’t the cell phone companies saying they don’t cause cancer, but many scientists, their studies, and government agencies like the FDA.

Pure logic dictates that going from a country where practically nobody has a cell phone to where almost everybody does and people use them all the time means we should be seeing a tremendous and easily verifiable rise in brain tumors, but I haven’t seen any reports that indicate anything of the sort has happened.

Incidentally, Antonio’s comment really falls apart when he recommends not using bluetooth. From what I’ve seen, those who say cell phones cause brain tumors say you SHOULD use bluetooth. Bluetooth does not use the same frequencies as cell phones and FWIU doesn’t get absorbed into the body.

Plus, I HATE when people use cell phones on speaker phones like walkie talkies. One of my biggest pet peaves ever as it is by far one of the most annoying things you can possibly do in public.

  17. Hi Guys & Gals,

I know many of you are avid cell phone users but radiation is an issue. You are going to see all kinds of studys that say it doesn’t cause problems and others that say it does. I believe most of us would agree that there is radiation in these phones. I am aware Scoble that there are people out there who have never used a cell phone who encounter a brain tumor. That comment does not sway my opinion at all. I have a friend who worked with monkeys and radiation that is used in cell phones and he informed me he would never touch a cell phone after seeing the results. If you believe the cell phone companies care about you then you might want to take a look at the amount of lawsuits that are being filed against them when it comes to this issue. The cell phone companies wanted the courts to throw the lawsuits out and the courts said no they will proceed. I’m not against cell phones but we should be aware of this issue! The product I told you about earlier helps reduce radiation up to 50% and you don’t see the cell phone companies giving them out with each new phone you buy do you? Start a conversation with your friends about how many people they know with brain tumors and you’ll start to realize this issue does exist. They have made improvements since those old cell phones in the 80’s but there needs to be more.

    Sincerely,
    Antonio

  19. Hey guys,

I must completely agree with Antonio…mobile phone radiation is a reality. Search on google for “mobile phone radiation cooks egg” and try to convince me my brain doesn’t get effected the same way.

Using a handsfree headset (wired) is even worse as it acts like an antenna directing the radiation towards your head and absorbing up to 60% of the radiation emmited. After using your mobile phone for over 4-5mins your Blood-Brain Barrier starts to break down allowing toxins to enter through your bloodstream into your brain (such as nicotine, carbon-monoxide, air pollution) which would normally be blocked. Im not here for arguements sake either. 2 years ago i was told i had a brain tumor which thankfully has been completely removed.

In conslusion. There is only one semi-safe way to use mobile phones. Use a wired handsfree earpeice, BUT, attach a ferrite bead to it (those round casings on the end of all your computer cables) as the iron-oxide alloy actually absorbs the radiation before it gets to your brain.

Hope this makes sense, wrote it while i was at work.

    Tom.

PS. Bluetooth headsets suck…i have several types (ones that clip one ear, one the clip onto your lapel with wired earpeice etc) and none of them are particularly useful except for use with my PC.

Yes.. its interesting i have read on other sites that bluetooth and wifi operate on very similar frequencies around 2.4ghz. that might explain why the bluetooth headsets dont work very well when in range of a wifi networks.. interference.. As far as radiation is concerned cell phone and bluetooth are both in the microwave spectra. I have experienced hair loss for a while.. i noticed when i stopped using my cell for a long time i stopped looseing hair… anyone else notice that?.. I bought a bluetooth thinking that it would reduce the radiation to my head.. guess i was wrong.. why cant they make wireless ear pieces that use a less damaging freqency!… damn the irresponsible phone companies!

  25. Actually i was informed for the first time ever (last night) that cell phone cause brain tumors. I was told this by my pastor’s mother. she told me that she had problems with cell phone radiation in her shoulder. i had my cell phone attached to my hip and she told me that her shoulder didn’t start hurting until i came inside the building. i felt kind of bad for her, but hey i have never had any health problems due to my cell. i do have my good share of headaches but that could be due to a whole lot of other things. all i can say is that i use my cell phone a whole lot due tothe fact that i dont have a land line….hey we’re in a new day and time, i feel my cell phone is needed seeing as to how i am a college student who live 2 hours away from my family. so i am not getting rid of mine anytime soon.

  27. Hey, I’ve been really concerned lately about all the non-ionizing radiation out there and came across your blog. What do you think about headsets that are wired to the PC. Do they have radiation? I can’t find the answer anywhere. I thought if it was wired, it didn’t have radiation, but now I’m confused. My teenager uses it all the time on his computer playing games and talking with his friends. I’m very concerned after finding all this on-line info. I’m in trouble myself with the cell phone thing. Being a realtor, I’ve had a cell attached to my head for about 13/14 years now. I’m not using it anymore; damage done??? Thanks.

  31. First off, to the person that posted about “mobile phone radiation cooks egg”: don’t believe everything (or even anything) that is sent to you in an email that urges you to forward it to everyone you know. Most of this is a hoax. This one isn’t actually physically possible.

    A. The battery would be dead long before any effective amount of radiation would be absorbed by the egg and raise its temperature. Google it, I’m sure there is evidence to back it up.

    B. Why is it that the myth always says you need to call the other phone? Seeing as how the calls get routed through a cell tower would suggest that any two phones could be used and could call any two random numbers. All they would apparently need to be doing is be in an operational state.

    C. If you still believe it’s true, try it for yourself. Good old fashioned research seems to be going out of style. Leave the phone on the call for 2 hours and if your battery has 2 hours of talk time, you will still be left with a raw egg.

Second off, there are just as many studies linking cell phone to cancer as there are saying there is no connection. The truth is, the time it takes cancer to develop makes this hard to directly prove. Epidemiologists need to survey huge groups of people and study their behavior over the period of maybe decades.

Does cell phone use, at some point, pose a health risk? Probably. So does driving, smoking, working in some factories and drinking excessive amounts of water. There is no conspiracy with the phone companies. Just about everything we do in modern life poses a health risk; improving quality of life never said that there wouldn’t be health risks. The job is to judge if the benefits outweigh the risks, and make your own choice to do it or not.

If you believe that cell phone use will give you a brain tumor, then use your phone only when necessary, and use hands-free devices. There are NO studies linking minimal to average cell phone use to any kind of health risk.

Also, Bluetooth is completely safe. The standard allows for communication over distances no greater than 30 feet. Any risk associated with this extremely low power device would be an insignificant fraction of any proven risk that could ever be found in cell phones. Use your blue tooth. Even if you don’t like it, at least you can stop complaining about the tumor your cell phone may or may not be causing to develop in your brain.

The bottom line: debating this issue here will do you no good, seeing as no one here is an expert in the field. Do your own research and decide for yourself. The internet, which you all obviously have access to, makes this really easy. Making an obscure connection between the number of brain tumors you see in your life compared to 20 years ago is not epidemiology, nor is it practical research.
