Douglas Engelbart’s interview online

A couple of weeks ago we had dinner with Douglas Engelbart, inventor of the mouse. That video is now online.

  1. One of the things in the video mentioned was the open source issues and what they mean. You had said that Google embraces/uses open source which we all know, but; what does Google give back for the use of that. All the custom changes they made to the OS’s and open source products, has this been shared in return? No! Why? IMHO, because it’s their business backbone. They depend on those changes to help them compete IOW make more money. Imagine how many people could benefit from those changes and discoveries.

Seems also, that all large companies eventually bit the hands that feed them. Google with Google Base. MS with basically everything. I personally don’t use much open source, if it’s valuable to me I don’t mind paying for it. When is enough, enough for Google and MS ?

    End rant…

P.S. Love your blog, keep it up..
