Richard MacManus pointed at a post from Jason Calacanis where he said that subscribing to a Del.icio.us bookmark feed is cooler than subscribing to the same person’s blog feed.
That’s nuts, sorry Jason.
By the way, Jason, I unsubscribed from a bunch of your blogs tonight. Why? Cause your guys put the same post on all your blogs. If you’re gonna do that I only need to be subscribed to one of your feeds, thank you very much.

That highlights a problem with a lot of bloggers – that they are pretty incestuous, echoing a lot of what the feeds they read are saying.
For instance, say I subscribe to A, B, C & D. If B mentions what A is saying, and links to it, and likewise C to B, and D to C, then soon I’m reading the same thing again and again, and I get bored and overloaded and look to reduce my subscriptions.

Andrew: But that’s what blogging is about. Company ABC does 123, and you have blogs with commentary from all your favorite bloggers.
What we need, and it’s annoying me that we don’t have it yet, is to get Gabe from memeorandum to make a meme api that any programmer can uses so that our rss readers shows us all of our content in a much more organized way.

I think the point Stefan is that many of the bloggers aren’t adding any significant commentary, rather they are just link to and mentioning sites with significant content.

Bubba, well thats why an RSS reader, with a meme engine would be great because you could see all the posts linking to one story, and it will help tackle the giant amounts of data we sort thru everyday.
I hope Scoble can talk to Gabe 🙂

Hey Stefan, you can talk to me too! Thanks for the suggestion. I think what you proprose is a great feature.
Still, it’s not like I can just flip a switch to activate it. It will cost man-years of development to make it work well, and for various technical reasons, I think it will benefit a smaller number of people than most believe. I expect to make gradual progress toward that capabilty, but I don’t see the business justification for jumping in headfirst…

Hey Gabe, love the site, it’s nice knowing that you have this idea on the burner, can’t wait till it gets implemented. A personal meme would be great!
I strongly disagree that it would benefit a few people, imagine the sort of data you could collect. An advertising engine could be built on this so that if everyone is linking to the new iPod then an Apple ad would go there, or if everyone was takling about the Sony DRM issue then there could be a link to napster or itunes.
This could also be built into a social news networking site. I could see what are the most important links my friend is seeing, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In a world where our tastes are moving further and further into the long tail it is becoming increasingly difficult to find conversation material and people with similar interests. Wouldn’t it be nice if I could see the people who are interested in cooking lamb as much as I am, or cheese lovers. News delivery is the first step, the platform is there, I am curious as hell as to what the future brings.
Keep up the great work on the site, it really is a hit.

Hahhaha, the irony here is so delicious (that is ‘delicious’ with no periods). Complaining about incestuous posts from a commodity-churn blogger company, when your blogrolls and feeds mimic the same behavior. Indeed, the incestuous linking is the very foundational nature of blogging itself, and it is exactly what your Memeorandum is fueled by. Which is why feeds become one big echo-chamber, the A-List or VIPs talks about such and such and it dribbles down.
Thankfully, blogging is getting better, in the sens that newcomers need not worship or link to the toolmakers or the meme creators. The less incestuous blogging becomes, the better it gets.
