I’m taking the day off. We didn’t get to Cardiff yesterday because the trains were jammed with people trying to get to the rugby game (Wales beat Australia for the first time in 18 years!) so we’re going today. Have fun, please keep suggesting great feeds for me to subscribe to!

It’s interesting what happens when you clean your blogroll
I’m seeing some disappointment at not being included in my blogroll anymore (I’ve gotten a few emails, and there are a few blog posts commenting on the fact that their writers aren’t included in my reading anymore). I’m sorry about that. But, I looked at why I wasn’t reading feeds anymore and I realized it just made me tired to look at my feeds. I had subscribed to too many. And now with Memeorandum and Digg I found I didn’t miss many, if any, of the “big” items. So, I pruned back. A lot. Now my list is very high quality and only includes people who write about technology. That means I deleted many of my friends’ feeds. I’m keeping those in a separate feed reader so I can catch up on what people like Halley and Nick are doing, but I wanted my list to stay focused on tech feeds.
John doesn’t want everything to be full-text
Disclaimer, John Roberts works for CNET, which doesn’t provide full-text. Today he wrote that he disagrees with me about full-text feeds.
I really try to avoid non-full-text feeds. I deleted many feeds I like that aren’t full text (like Shelley Powers’ feed, Chris Pirillo’s feeds, and Jeffrey Zeldman’s feeds — all of which I deleted from my daily reading). Why? Because there are so many great feeds out there that I just don’t have time for people who don’t treat me the way I want to be treated.
See I use NewsGator. It only shows me headlines in one pane and the content in another pane. So I can scan feeds very quickly — even though they are full-text feeds.
I find that full-text feeds actually make it FASTER to scan. Why? Cause all the content is pre-loaded for me. Partial text feeds required me to click a link and wait for my browser to load.
Update: Steve Gillmor says that John is beating a dead horse.
