Remember when I was bragging about getting a look at the technology in Ajay’s Juneja’s car? Damn it’s the coolest car I’ve ever ridden in (my son thinks so too, he got a look at it recently too). Well, today Michael Arrington of TechCrunch got a look and brags about the car too. His natural language speech processing system is really superb. I hear Microsoft has something similar in the works. I wonder how it compares? Is this stuff important? Oh, yeah! Bill Gates has been promising this kind of stuff for years. We’re about to see an explosion of voice recognition systems. Ajay says his is lightweight enough that he could run it on a small MP3 playing device, for instance. Oh, now you’re starting to see the commercial value of voice. “Play Black Eyed Peas Shutup” you could say. And it’d start playing.

Has Microsoft changed their policy on this? From my past experience working closely with Microsoft as a gold partner, the MCS consultants could NEVER sign an NDA, since it could be something Microsoft was working on (and as you say in this case, probably is)…
What does your legal department feel about these situations?

I didn’t make Scoble sign a written NDA. It was a gentleman’s NDA, as he says.

You know, when BillG was on MTVOverdrive, he said: I’ve got a bunch of high-resolution screens all around my house, and I can call up any movie or any song, and it’ll start playing on the nearest screen” or something like that. How do you suppose he does that? A mic on each screen that that let’s the app that launches the song/movie/picture know where he is, or is he just talking so that high-school kids are gonna get it?
