MSN Search geeks on Channel 9

I just posted a frank talk with two of the geeks who are building MSN Search. It’s an hour long, and you’ll get a little look into how the geeks who build search engines think. If you’re interested in search, I think this one will be interesting to you. I was pretty hard on this team cause they are in the #3 spot. We talk about Google, noise, spam, and lots of other stuff.

I’m off to fly down to Silicon Valley. See ya tonight. I’ll be going to the TechCrunch Meetup, but will be there a bit late.

  1. After reading all your posts on search, I went and gave MSN search a try (I was using Google out of habit), and I was pleasantly impressed with its smooth performance and the search results page. More importantly, I felt the results were more thorough and accurate than Google’s. I’ve now added MSN search to my firefox search box.

  3. MSN search relevancy HAS improved 🙂

But the so-called “Neural Network or RankNet” is ver, very similar to the DirectHit (CLICK POPULARITY) Search Engine of the late 1990s –
here are some saved SERPs and Redirect Urls that you can examine and compare for yourselves …

The obvious question is – if it failed for DirectHit, what is it that MSN search can do that is better?

    BTW:
DirectHit’s technology was purchased by Ask.com – are they using it?
